Barnes & Noble - David McGee
The title tells only part of the amazing story: Since his 1981 debut with the Strait Country album, the humble Texan George Strait has cut no fewer than 50 chart-topping singles. The rest of the story is that since his first No. 1, "I Hate Everything" -- a fiddle- and pedal steel–rich tale of reconciliation born of another man's despair -- Strait has kept his traditional approach intact, occasionally injecting some rock 'n' roll propulsion and intensity as on the driving, buoyant "Blue Clear Sky" or a chiming electric piano the dreamy "You Look So Good In Love", but never straying far from the support provided by a basic country combo with fiddles and steel.
He picks exquisite songs that tell quintessential country stories -- about people celebrating love, about people torn up by love, about misadventures in love as in the self-deprecating "All My Exes Live in Texas" and the bluesy, George Jones–style weeper "Let's Fall to Pieces Together", about people trying to get from one day to the next "I Can Still Make Cheyenne". And Strait sings with tremendous feeling, using the entire range of his warm voice and phrasing with masterful sensitivity to a lyric's nuances, whether he's up there in the ether crying out a plea or easing down low for some romantic crooning see "The Chair". Not least of all, he's worked with two great producers in Jimmy Bowen and Tony Brown, who know exactly what to add to give a song wings and then get out of the artist's way. What's so special about George Strait? The answer's here, 50 times over.
All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
There have been plenty of George Strait compilations, and most of have been very good, but none have been as good as 2004's 50 Number Ones. While the 1995 box set Strait Out of the Box illustrated the range and depth of Strait's musical achievement, it may have been too lengthy for some listeners, and shorter compilations like the two-volume The Very Best of Strait left too many hits behind -- and by 2004, all those compilations were out-dated, since Strait continued to top the charts until the release of 50 Number Ones. This double-disc contains all the big hits that he's had since Strait Out of the Box, along with all of his classics from the '80s and early '90s. The title might bend the truth a little bit -- at least according to the Billboard charts, such latter-day singles as "True" and "Run" only peaked at number two, not number one -- but it doesn't matter, since this contains all of his major singles in one convenient package. And it's not noteworthy just because it's one-stop shopping, it's also noteworthy because it proves exactly how consistent George Strait's body of work has been over the last twenty-some years. From start to finish, there's not a slow spot here -- it's a thoroughly entertaining collection that belongs in the ranks of country's greatest-hits albums.

When has he ever put a bad record out. This is great to have when you can only bring a couple of CD's in. Best part is that there really is nothing missing.....

    Good Selection

I love his music, and I love this album. But, however, I did not enjoy the fact that they left out Amarillo By Morning. But, this album is still at the top of my list.

Need to Rename to 51 Number Ones!

There is a reason he is called "King George" Now that " I Hate Everything" has hit the top spot they need to rename this cd. They shouldn't have been so modest in the naming. Never under estimate the power of George Strait!

    The Ultimate George Strait

This is a real treat for any music lover. It starts off with newest hit and takes you down memory lane. Its the best time I've had with a CD in a long time. Had several people try to run off with it...its that good. Will have to buy another one in case this one wears out!

    King of Country Music

If you enjoy country music and George Strait, then this is the best collection to have. Filled with so many beautiful songs, you'll find yourself wanting to slow dance the night away with that special someone. All of George Strait's c.d.'s are great and I give them all 5 stars.

    Pleasing to the ears

I started listening to country music when I was about 12 years old. I was really into hip hop and R&B but then my dad introduced country music to me. At first I was really not into it but then I started to listen to songs from George Straight. His songs really caught my attention since I can really relate to what he is singing. I think he has a stunning voice and he can really reach out to people by his music. I love all of his albums but the best one yet is 50 Number Ones. It has the greatest love songs and it’s really pleasant to listen to. From my opinion, country music is the best type of music to listen to. They don’t talk nonsense and they really relate to your life today such as friendship and love. If you like to sit back and listen to soothing songs that has a catchy tune, then I strongly recommend George Straight: 50 Number Ones to you!

George Strait is AWESOME... But Buyer Beware

This a a great collection. It reminds me why I fell in love with George Strait's voice way back when I was in high school in the 80s and why I still love it 20+ years later. Unfortunately, TPTB have done a few things to mar what could have been a real testament to Mr. Strait's career. They have shamelessly chopped up several of the songs on disc one in order to cram them all in. I was also surprised that "The Cowboy Rides Away," "The Fireman," and "Amarillo By Morning" were excluded since they fudged the Number 1 idea with "True" and "Run." Still George Strait could put out a CD with him singing Happy Birthday and it would be awesome. This is a very nice collection.
