Overview

Rock and Roll is a lot more than just a musical genre. For those who grew up in the 50s and 60s, it's an attitude - part of our DNA.

It grew out of a number of musical styles from the early to mid 1900s but was fueled by the post WWII baby boom along new recording and communications technology. Music was available to this generation through many avenues. This music also defined a generation of Americans who wanted their own ways of expressing their ideas and emotions.

The birth of Rock and Roll blended styles that were originally divided by ethnicity. The kids didn't care who recorded the music - it was either in the groove or it wasn't. Rock and Rollers aren't white or black -they're just Rock and Rollers.

This book is not intended to be the definitive encyclopedia or Rock and Roll music. Just a few cool stories about how certain songs came to be.

*What does "Crystal Blue Persuasion" mean?
*Who is the only non Beatle to be co-credited on a Beatles record? *
*What exactly is Manfred Mann singing about in the refrain of "Blinded by the Light?" Contrary to popular belief it's not a feminine hygiene product.

There's some interesting background on how some bands were formed, morphed, dissolved and reborn.

* Out of the 20 members of "Yes" over the years, who is the only original member still performing?"
*Who are "Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, and Starship?"
*What mega group's bass player had his first success the with one-hit wonder "Question Mark and the Mysterians?"

Quick and easy to read 50 Shades of Rock and Roll is intended to bring you back to the heartbeat of Rock and Roll. If we all keep listening, it will never die.
