This little Cupcake book contains recipes for almost any cupcake combination you could think of. Some things you might want to know before purchasing are: *Each cupcake recipe comes with 3 different 'variations', and these variations are counted towards the 500 total. *There are 2 sections on muffins. This didn't bother me, as I like muffins as well and there are some good muffin recipes. *Self-rising Flour is used in nearly every recipe. This is considered a 'specialty flour' in the grocery stores, and is usually more expensive that all-purpose flour. Overall, every cupcake recipe I have tried has been very good. I wish I could figure out the flour to baking soda ratio myself so I didn't have to use the self-rising flour, though. And some of the frosting recipes were too soft to use just after mixing, so I had to chill them in the fridge for a bit.

Of all of the recipes I have tried in this book, none of them have worked. I've run across everything from wrong bake temperatures, to wrong bake times, to batters that just don't. I've actually given up on using this book in any practical fashion and only use it to get ideas from. It does have nice pictures.

this book looks like it will be a great resource- not to mention adorable. i have a 2 year old and a 4 year old so i make a fair amount of cupcakes and muffins. unfortunately it is obvious that these recipes were not ever tested. i tried 4 recipes before i gave up and got rid of the book entirely (for fear of ever being tempted to use it again and ruin another batch of cupcakes/muffins). my issues ranged from incorrect baking times (incorrect not by a minute or two- but upwards of 10 minutes off even when baking in an accurate/brand new oven) to the wrong baking temperatures to incorrect proportions. for ex. one of the recipes called for 2 separate parts- the cupcake mix and the "filling" part. i think it was supposed to make 2 dozen cupcakes. there was only enough "cupcake" for about 1 dozen and enough filling for about 3 dozen...there are too many great cookbooks out there to waste your time on these recipes..

I just purchased this book and so far I love it! I love the variations of each of the recipes. I will always have a recipe for any occasion. The best part is even though there are three variations of each cupcake, there are virtually countless different frosting recipes as well with each of the cupcakes! Way better than using the same old buttercream frosting on every cake! Yes, there is a couple chapters on muffins - but cupcakes are named cupcakes because of their size, not because of their batter. Besides, who doesn't love great muffins!? The only downside I have found in this book is that most recipes ask for self rising flour, which isn't like all purpose flour. It costs a bit more, but when getting great cupcakes as a result, I don't mind! I would definitely reccommend this to anyone! I also love the other '500' books that are part of this series. They look great on my display shelf 'we have open storage in our kitchen, so things are kept neat and tidy' - the overall appeal is fantastic!

This is a cutesy book, but most of the recipes and pictures can be found online. If you are a baking fanatic and have plenty of room for tons of cookbooks, get it. Otherwise it is a waste of money.

500 Cupcakes is a fun cookbook that goes beyond the basic vanilla and chocolate to include tons of flavors to add a welcome change to single serving cakes. Vanilla and chocolate are included, along with other traditional cake bases like devil's food and poppyseed, but many unique recipes join the line-up such as Lavender & Honey, Expresso, Cardamom & Orange, Cookies & Cream, Chai, Mexican Chocolate and Chili, and Raspberry & Coconut, to name just a few. Some use surprising ingredients such as couscous, chili powder, and pesto. As with the other "500" cookbooks in this series from Sellers Publishing, there are actually 100 or so base recipes with 4-5 variations for each that complete the total that the title promises. There are lots of beautiful color photographs which is always a plus and makes this a great resource for decorating and serving ideas, and the ingredients are easily found in any grocery store. I have many recipes bookmarked to try and did make the cinnamon and applesauce cupcakes which were more like muffins but very good and didn't require icing. The recipes are divided into groups by chapter to include Classic, Fragrant & Spiced, Chocolate, Decadent (cheesecakes, etc.), Celebration (holidays, showers, etc.), Cupcakes for Kids, Cupcakes for Alternative Diets (glutten-free, dairy-free, vegan, etc.), and Designer Cupcakes (decorative). I will enjoy using this cookbook and think it is one any baker would like having in his or her collection because of the many unique recipes. I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher but the opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive review required.

I purchased this cute little cookbook for my future daughter-in-law as a wedding shower gift. She loves to bake; I know she'll love this book too!
