Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Peg Glisson
Here's a book that will rival the Guinness Book of World Records in popularity. It is filled with fun and interesting facts on all sorts of topics of interest to kids. Each two-page spread is filled with a bounty of facts loosely related by a theme. From animals (zebras' stripes make it hard for predators to pick out a single animal) to world leaders (Queen Victoria popularized white wedding gowns), from inventions (an iPad-like computer was first invented in 1968) to geography (Prince William's university degree is in geography), from architecture (a professional skateboarder designed a completely rounded, skateboard-able home, including cabinets and furniture) to movies (Japan's movie goers like to snack on baked fish skeletons, covered with soy and sugar)—there is definitely a fact or more to amaze, gross out, humor, or tantalize each reader. The number of facts within a category range from 15 to 100. The book's designers have come up with a myriad of ways to display the facts, with some clear, colorful photos interspersed on each spread; pages with more than 50 are text heavy and a challenge to read. A fact ticker along the bottom of each page lets readers know how many facts they have learned as they progress through the pages. ?15 Final Facts about Endings' close out the book, with the final fact pronouncing it would take an adult reading 250 words per minute about 400 minutes to read the book cover to cover! Parents or other adults will enjoy sharing this with the school-age children in their lives. Reading it together could well lead to some lively conversation or further research. Kids will proudly spout these newly learned facts to all who will listen. Reviewer: Peg Glisson

This is a perfect book for casual reading. Each category has bet

This is a perfect book for casual reading. Each category has between fifteen and one hundred facts on a topic listed on the page and are exactly what the title of the book says, AWESOME! 5000 Awesome Facts by National Geographic has 224 pages of facts. In fact (pun intended), page 214 says, “If the average adult read 250 words per minute, it would take them about 400 uninterrupted minutes to read this book cover to cover.” Facts about animals, creepy crawlers, robots, candy, chocolate, and wacky hotels are just a few of over 5000 facts to read about.

You could use this book for fun while with friends and family or for research on a homework assignment. There really are facts for everyone to enjoy.

I like this book because it has so many facts about a wide variety of topics and it always kept me saying, “WOW!” This is a perfect book for short car rides, waiting at the dentist, or in between school and dinnertime. I really like the facts on dinosaurs and candy and highly suggest picking this book up for yourself.
