Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Despite its tabloid-ish title, this book contains detailed workouts designed to create a toned figure. Using a few simple props (stability ball, dumbbells, a chair), Zim takes readers through upper body, lower body and abdominal workouts that are described in detail and illustrated with photos. Although many may be familiar, some are tweaked to get the most out of the exercise. The Hollywood Kickout, for example, works the inside and outside of the triceps by slightly twisting the dumbbell and isolating the muscle. That, says Zim, is what gives triceps that nice line of definition. The goal is to create the sculpted but symmetrical physique so many stars possess these days. "Most people plan their workouts around what I call mirror muscles," says Zim, referring to the front half of the body most people see in the mirror. "For a lot of people, their backs and rear delts are not in balance with the front."
Zim, who owns a gym in Culver City, has trained Jessica Biel and Ashley Judd, and says he understands why people covet celebrity bodies: "They have the wow factor," he says. (Los AngelesTimes, March 27, 2006)

Bought this from B&N years ago but only really committed to

Bought this from B&N years ago but only really committed to the program about six months ago.
Don't let the cheesy name and cover fool you, this is actually some really good, fundamental exercise and diet information.
After some research I decided upon this program because it emphasizes stretching, moderation, and healthy eating habits instead of
supplements and focusing on only a few exercises / muscle groups at a time.
This isn't one of those fad diet and exercise things they put in the tabloids.

There are NO secrets to weight loss!

The book is OK. BUT it is a scientific FACT all you can do to lose weight is take in fewer calories than you burn, then you will lose weight. There is NO other way, no magic fat burning pill or diet. Just eat less(and healthy),work out hard and you will lose weight. You must chage your basic eating habits to have long term weight loss. Fad diets just take you money and promise quick cures which are totally bogus.

    Needs more nutritional information...

The author outlines 3 areas of focus to achieve the Hollywood body: diet, aerobic conditioning, and weight lifting. It is obvious that his expertise is in the physical work-outs, because the nutritional part is not well defined. Most books of this type would give the reader sample menus. For example, he gives Tier 1 and Tier 2 protiens, vegetables, etc. However, the choices are slim indeed for breakfast (egg whites or tofu?), the most important meal of the day. His recommendations for food selections also appear to be conflicting at times (no sugar and avoid sugar substitutes but include yogurt once a day..when was the last time you saw yogurt without sugar or substitute?). And to say the portion size of a Tier 1 protein equals the palm of the hand and a Tier 1 vegetable is equal to the size of the protein...does that mean a single layer, a pile, or what??? I am well read in nutritional materials, and I found it all confusing. How would a newbie translate this nebulous information?? On the other hand, I have started his workouts, and I believe they will give results.
