65 Amish Recipes
Amish cooking has become ingrained into traditional American cooking. Chances are, growing up your grandmother or your mother prepared a dish or two that was based on a traditional Amish recipe and you didn't even know it. You just knew that you found it delicious. In my case it was the "Shoo Fly Pie" that my grandmother made when I was a young child. It was awesome! Later in life, I tried to find Shoo Fly Pie, and found that no one knew what I was talking about.

I asked my mother if she had the recipe and as luck would have it, my grandmother never wrote down any of her recipes. She had them all stored in her head. So from there the hunt was on. I finally traced the roots of my favorite dessert to the Amish, and that is where this book was born. I found that many of the great breads, cookies and dishes that my grandmother used to make, were actually Amish recipes! more from this reviewer

    Hmmm...

the recipes look good enough ,but when one of the first recipes in the book calls for you to "place in microwave",you gotta call a bluff on how authentic amish these recipes are. lol

    Slapped together?

The recipes may work out fine but the book itself is lacking. No index, the title bar end up as a hex number instead of something readable, a couple of places has gibberish between the recipes. About 30m of work would have created a decent book to use. The lack of an index is the biggest flaw.

Not sure the Amish call everything Amish (recipe)

I've had a look through the book, and I'll grant you some of the recipes look good. However, I'm wondering why every recipe is called Amish (fill in the blank). Amish Friendship Bread. Amish cake. Amish Cabbage. Amish chicken soup. Amish... You get the idea.

I get that this is a book of Traditional Amish Recipes, but I don't think the Amish name everything with Amish. Made me really doubt that these were "traditional" recipes, but they seemed more like down home cooking that the author wanted to make special. Some of these look like recipes that a friend of mine got from her non-Amish grandmother.

Do they look good? Yes, some of the recipes look really good. There are some I plan on trying. But I'm not going to call everything Amish (recipe).

Found Some New Things To Make

My family wanted some new dishes as they were tired of everything that I was making for them, I found some new recipes and they came out great.

    Disappointing

I suppose from the list of recipes in the intro, I set my hopes a bit too high. What I found was common everyday dinners using ingredients such as "cream of mushroom soup" and "sweetened condensed milk". I guess I was expecting more of the recipes to be "made from scratch". Recipes were often repetitive or poorly written, omitting important steps or just confusing to a beginning cook. You'ld be better off googling "Amish Recipes". Sorry.

    Good Recipes!

These recipes are good and easy to follow. They really do remind me of simple comfort foods my grandmother made. The dishes are tasty and the ingredients quite affordable. The only suggestion I have is that an index would make this cookbook easier to use.

    Disappointing

Very disappointing. Format on Nook is not good. Perhaps the hardback version would be more pleasing.

    Title Misleading?

I was hoping to find unusual recipes. I wonder if the recipes are Amish when they reference use of modern conveniences, or if they were converted. There are recipes as promised, so it is not all bad.
