Keeping the mid-'70s soul-pop flame alive is a safe route in teeny pop. S Club 7 -- a group of Euroteens called Rachel, Hannah, Jo, Tina, Bradley, Paul, and Jon -- have captured the attention of many preteens internationally through their catchy pop songs and their TV shows S Club 7 in Miami and S Club 7 in L.A.. They debuted in the U.S. in the summer of '99 with the single "Bring It All Back," which was followed in early 2000 by the long-player S Club. A creation of Simon Fuller (master Svengali/manager of Spice Girls), S Club 7 won a Brit Award (like a Grammy in England) in 2000 for being Best British Newcomer, and they quickly followed up that success with another album, Seven. The disc opens with the supercatchy "Reach," which sounds like Michael Jackson fronting Wham! There are other Jackson 5-esque touches -- song titles such as "I'll Be There" and the Jackson via Pointer Sisters track "Bring the House Down" -- while the infectious "Natural" evokes Britney Spears, and "Two in a Million" is very Spice Girls. The production is a bit synthetic, and the band fares best when sticking to soulful R&B. But these feel-good tunes, rife with inspirational (if cheesy) messages like "there ain't nothin' you can't be," will keep your nine-year-old happy till the Club emerge with a worldwide tour.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
With teen pop trends changing ever more rapidly, the forces behind S Club 7 took action: just ten months after the release of their debut S Club, the inevitably named follow-up 7 arrived. However, in a misguided attempt to make the group's prefab pop sound more mature, 7 ditched their debut's fun, bouncy style in favor of by-the-numbers ballads and a forced eclecticism, both of which muddied S Club 7's sound instead of expanding it. Though their songs were never as recognizable as Britney, Christina, Backstreet, or 'N Sync's, S Club's cheerful, more innocent style at least set them apart from the rest of the teen pop B-list. But by adopting the poses of the style's bigger stars -- as on the Britney-esque "Natural" and the boy-band-lite "Best Friend" -- S Club 7 ends up sounding more faceless than before. Anonymous ballads like "Lately" and "Never Had a Dream Come True" emphasize the fact that the group's voices aren't as strong or interesting as those of teen pop's stars; the would-be dance-pop anthems "Bring the House Down" and "Love Train" (thankfully, not a cover of the O'Jays' classic) confirm just how thin the septet's pipes are. Worse, 7's first half never settles into a comfortable groove. Instead, the album skips from "I'll Keep Waiting"'s fusion of sugary pop, reggae, and hip-hop to "All in Love Is Fair," a lite version of contemporary R&B that whitewashes everything about the style, down to the syncopated, Timbaland-style beats. Wanting to showcase the band's range is understandable, but the disappointing results only prove how little they grew in the ten months between their first and second albums. However, 7 doesn't completely dispose of S Club's fun, carefree sound: "Reach" is a brassy update of the Partridge Family's bubblegum charm, while "Cross My Heart" is a slick pop confection that proves that the group's vocals can have some oomph to them. "I'll Be There" reaches all the way back to the Spice Girls for its fluffy inspiration, and despite its awkward title, "The Colour of Blue" is a shiny pop trifle that sounds like Sheena Easton or Olivia Newton-John could've sung it back in the day. Though S Club 7's fans will undoubtedly gobble up 7 as eagerly as they did S Club, some of them may notice that this time around, the group's candy-coated pop is considerably blander.

This CD is excellent! It has a creative title and it's lyrics just blew me away. These songs are just as good as their last CD. S Club 7 really know what they're talkin' about and their songs are what makes them unique.

Here's a great review for S Club 7's album, '7' 1.REACH: This is a great tune. Every Time I hear it, I sing along and I get all hyper. It's the theme song to S Club 7 in LA. 2.NATURAL:This is a really good song. rachel sings the lead. The video is on the beach and they sung it themselves on LA7 at the Vina Cafe' on the episode when they first reach LA. 3.I'LL KEEP WAITING: This is a great tune. Bradley sings the lead. 4:BRINGTHEHOUSEDOWN: this is a funky 70's tune. Sorry I couldn't do all the songs!

They are the British version on ''Friends'' with their tv show on Fox Family. They will continue to hit the top of the charts ans will become a household name.

''I never had a dream come true...'' I drift away to sleep as my CD player softly plays this new CD by s club 7. ok, I'm awake now! hehe :) This new CD by the fabulous band, S club 7, is making incredible success in the USA. Unlike their previous CD, this CD includes mostly R'n'B slow songs, with the exception of a few, such as Reach, Bring the House Down, and Love Train. I love this CD so much, it rarely leaves my CD player! I especially love the pop ballads such as Never Had A Dream Come True and Cross My Heart. These songs have such a beautiful tune! I guarantee, if you love pop bands such as N*sync or the Backstreet Boys, you'll just LOVE S club 7's music! So what are you waiting for? Go out and buy the brand-spanking new CD by S Club 7, called '7' You'll just love it!
