School Library Journal
K-Gr 3-An interesting photo essay about a goat farm. The owner's three grandchildren are shown touring the farm and playing with the kids. Feeding and care are discussed in the text, which consists of two to three sentences per page. The last half of the book dwells mainly on milking the animals and on the production of cheese. The narrative follows the large, clear, full-color photos very closely, so that there is no need for captions. Unfortunately, there is no pronunciation guide, and some of the vocabulary, e.g., ``pasteurizer,'' ``carousel,'' and ``culture,'' might be unfamiliar to readers. A good choice for nonfiction picture-book collections.-Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, KS

The title's a grabber, and young readers will like the book, even when they figure out that it's 700 goats Grandpa has on his farm, not children. This simple photo-essay about life on a dairy farm, as seen through the eyes of Miles Cahn's three grandchildren, details the process of cheesemaking, from goat to market. The text is informative if a little jerky, and a picture of Grandpa and his grandchildren watching the sun come up seems to be there just so there will be enough pages in the book. But the photos themselves are crisp and interesting, and as an introduction to farming, this should intrigue both browsers and the youngest report writers.
