Overview

70's Country Hits is a budget-line collection offering little in the way of packaging, fidelity, or liner content. However, it gets the music right, which is more than can be said for plenty of its ilk. Instead of trying to present a thorough overview of country and western music during one of the genre's most convulsive periods, 70's Country Hits instead cherry picks principal singles and voices from the era. The always reliable Waylon Jennings appears with "Amanda," while the Number One single "When You're Hot, You're Hot" (from Jerry Reed) is campy fun. Best is Gary Stewart's "She's Actin' Single (I'm Drinkin' Doubles)," a classic honky tonk wobbler from the guy who paved the way for Garth Brooks and rest of Nashville's latter-day hat squad.
