    For the Pontiac Enthusiast

Commissioned by Pontiac Motor Division, '75 Years of Pontiac: The Official History' covers the history of Pontiac from its origins as Oakland Motor Company through the year 2000. Each decade is given its own chapter, including a discussion of Pontiac's efforts during the war years and additional chapters focusing on the Bonneville, GTO, Firebird and Pontiac Racing. The book also presents a list of all the executives who have headed the division and annual production figures for every model. Every page contains high-quality photographs and period advertising, but unfortunately there are no images of sales literature or other nostalgia included. The book is an authoritative account of Pontiac's history and the author has included a very high level of detail for each model on a year-by-year basis. The book begins by describing the people and events that helped build the division, but by the 1960's and '70's the author moves away from the historical context and focuses mostly on the cars themselves. The book is littered with unfortunate typographical errors, which while detracting from the overall high quality of the publication, do not seem to compromise its factual integrity. The 75th anniversary of Pontiac is certainly a significant milestone in automotive history, and this book is an excellent resource (and keepsake) for any enthusiast.

    For early history buffs

This book gives a fairly detailed history of the early years of Oakland and Pontiac. It also has chapters on Pontiac's concept cars and Pontiac's invlolvement in racing. A good book if this is what interests you. Unfortunately the history from the 60's on up is limited to a paraphrased summary of Pontiac's sales literature and press releases with a few factory photos thrown in. If your interests lie in the history of the exciting muscle car years or detailed year-by-year vehicle information, this book will disappoint you.
