Overview

In recent years, mainstream Americans have begun to come around to meditation in a big way-and scientific studies are suggesting that the physical and mental benefits are solid and real. But to many, it remains something mystical and inaccessible...and spiritually-oriented tomes on the market don't do much to make it easier.

As interest in meditation continues to grow, this book offers a simple, no-nonsense program to help beginners experience reduced stress and increased focus in only eight minutes a day. Designed by meditation expert and bestselling author Victor Davich, this program teaches the basic principles of meditation while clearing up the misconceptions and myths that too often get in the way.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Davich (The Best Guide to Meditation) has written a book ideally suited to the moment-swift, light, surefooted, brief, easy to read, and offering the promise of results in very little time. That said, Davich's little guide to meditation is indeed humorous, wise, effective, and resolutely nonsectarian: his work should offer readers of many faiths and traditions the opportunity to insert a bit of meditation into their lives and, as Davich promises, carry that meditation forward toward loving kindness. This book makes learning useful techniques for meditating simple. If you find yourself to be one of those people who hold onto stress and can't seem to shake it.......meditation could be the key. This book was written in a foolproof way and all the reader has to do is follow the instructions. I look forward to continuing my practice as I have found it helpful in keeping me fresh and my outlook towards life positive.

Though I have done some higher level meditation in a monastery setting, I needed a book to help me start my own simple home practice. I did not want to wade through anything too heavy, and I enjoyed the simple, direct approach designed for the lay person. Though at times I found it a bit too over-simplified, it is excellent for the beginner who has no no experience or knowledge of meditation. Plus, being a very busy person, I liked the idea of 8 minutes a day. I am almost finished with the book and am ready to move on to a more spiritual and higher level treatise on the subject. Great gift, and I did use AND enjoy it.

This was my first book on meditation, and it was so helpful. I didn't have the slightest knowledge of meditation, but the author slowly introduces you, explains everything simply (without treating you like a novice) and introduces several 10 minute meditations to get you started. It was a tremendous help for my anxiety problems - they went away! I've since moved on to longer Jewish meditation, but this book got me going. Highly recommended!

This is a such a valuable book for beginners and experienced meditators alike! It is a book that is full of humor and and specific techniques to inspire anyone who may be intimated by meditation. I would highly recommend this as a keeper on your bookshelf.

It is great for people with no time to meditate but with a desire for something more then the standard prayer routine. If you are looking for enlightenment and awakening, however, it will take a very long time using this method. It is much better then doing nothing at all.
