Kanye West doesn't rap on his fourth album, 808s And Heartbreak. Instead, according to MTV, the unpredictable hip-hop star sings on most of the album employing autotune and vocoder effects a la T-Pain. His beats are also noticeably more stripped down and rock influenced.

Remember when Kanye West threatened to make an album where he would bear his heartbroken soul, align with T-Pain, sing on every song with the then inescapable Auto-Tune effect, and lean on the Roland TR-808 drum machine? It could have been a wreck, a case of an artist working through paralyzing heartache while loose in a toy store. Except West wasn't...

It could have been a wreck, a case of an artist working through paralyzing heartache while loose in a toy store. Except West wasn't joking. In various spots across 808s & Heartbreak, the constant flutter of West's processed voice is enlivened by the disarming manner in which despair and dejection are conveyed. Several tracks have almost as much in common with irrefutably bleak post-punk albums as contemporary rap and R&B. For anyone sifting through a broken relationship and self-letdown, this could all be therapeutic.

    More Emotional

This album is more emotional than Kanye's previous works. Still a very good album, but just different from the Kanye of the previous three albums. It sheds a different light on Kanye, but I liked it.

I dont know what he was thinking but we are not on the same page.

Kanye west has long been praised as lifeblood for true hiphop (substance, depth, purpose, something different) in ways that is true "no flow" little or no mic skill and a limited vocab surpassed by most 8th graders when they hit puberty. Kanye cannot sing and T-pain's voice sounds like a strung out accordian n no-1 likes the acordian. This album has 3 good tracks amazing, heartless, love lockdown that is it. There is nothing noteworthy it does not grow on you its self absorbed of him to try n make an album like this like weezy believing his own hype kanye tried something different and failed miserably his last album was 3 times better it was only a 3 star record.

    Pop Art

808s & Heartbreak has some really good songs (Welcome to Heartbreak, Heartless, Love Lockdown, Paranoid, Robocop, Coldest Winter) but it also has some pretty bad songs (Amazing, Street Lights, Bad News). I liked the driving beat of the music, but some of the songs were just dull and uninteresting. "Amazing" had a good beat, but was incredibly redundant to the point of exasperation. Overall, the CD is good, but far from perfect.

    Heartbreak

You don't have to be a fan of Kanye West to enjoy this CD tracks 3 and 5 are worth the purchase alone. It is approriately titled and the lyrics and musical arrangemnt help Kanye secured his originality,

    Yes, there's swearing.

Also, you can't just go adding whatever you want to the in-store music.

You have to give him credit

You have to give him credit because he always likes to switch things up which is what music is all about. You can't have the same type of music out all the time. I love Kanye and while I was a little apprehensive at first, the CD grew on me. My favorites are #1-6 and #8,10,and 11. I can't wait for the next album.

    I Also Recommend:

    Opinions are like......whatever!

I really dislike when people make hip-hop or urban music minimal. The anonymous person who made the comment saying Kanye isn't this or that in my opinion is entitled to an opinion but lacks merit. Kanye is an artist that makes millions happy and for someone to discredit him saying he should have done this or that is wack in my opinion. most hip-hop or urban artists out here work hard to establish an identity in the industry and for someone to draw an opinion based on an album you don't like fine but this is growth for Kanye and change is good sometimes. Who really cares that he isn't a true musician, some of the biggest names in recorded music history were not TRUE musicians. My main premise of this review is to never listen to negative things that people say about any artist. Most artists out here have a story to tell and a unique way of telling it. So with that being said I give props to Kanye for daring to be different and excelling in doing so. Enjoy the album because I am. Peace and blessings

    Can't stop listening to it

I know there are mixed reviews about this CD- but I really enjoy it. It's chill music and the songs sound like hes at a crossroads in his life with love and meaning. I have had it in my car stereo all week and really enjoy the beats. It is different for Kanye to use the voice corrector but I think it works for this cd...its not like hes going to do it forever, but it was an interesting add on.

    This is nonsense, not music.

Let's be honest, Kanye West is not a musician and never will be and this CD proves it. When Kanye West stuck to rapping he did fine because rapping requires no musical talent, no song writing talent, and-- come to think of it-- no real talent at all. So Kanye would bury himself in a music studio, use computer-generated beats and sound effects, presto: rap CDs that were hailed as great. But here Kanye's ego got the best of him; he actually began to believe he was real musician. His inability to sing, play an instrument, or write music was a bit of problem when he decided to produce an actual music CD. The solution? Computer generated-vocals, computer-generated beats, computer-generated sound effects. The result? Nonsense that masquarades as music.

    This sucks

I hate to agree with 50, but Kanye will regret this one. This cd is awful. He should stick to rapping and not follow trends. He needs to come back with something good quickly.
