A Fulbright Fellowship affords a professor the opportunity to share his academic expertise while living and working in a country (Poland) for a year. The years 1992-1993 provided my wife and I a unique opportunity to experience the vitality of a rapidly changing society. It also provided new, often humorous challenges as we adjusted to this new world. How was it possible that a scientist trained in energy technology couldn't start a coal furnace? How could someone find a place to live when there were few rentals available and no newspaper ads to find them? How had Poland changed since our first visit in 1972? I've selected vignettes that are both unusual where we are able to laugh at ourselves
The book also includes our "approach" to mastering the Polish language, our search to adopt Polish children in our own fashion and our search for my Polish roots.
