Overview

Thirtieth anniversary edition out in 2007!

World Champion Pool Player Ray "Cool Cat" Martin shares his secrets for playing winner's pool in this classic book, now with a new introduction by the author. Written with co-author Rosser Reeves three decades ago, The 99 Critical Shots in Pool remains one of the most authoritative guides to the game ever written. Over 200 illustrations show the proper form, technique, and approach to shots such as:

• The Center Ball Cheat-the-Pocket
• The Hook Shot
• The Seven Ball Stop Shot
• The Jump Shot
• The Frozen Kiss Shot
• The Nudge Shot
• The Side Pocket By-Pass Shot

Ray Martin, a Billiards Congress of America Hall of Fame inductee, is one of only seven players in the twentieth century to win three or more world 14.1 titles. He co-wrote this book with Rosser Reeves in 1976.

Taking a cue from the millions of younger Americans who have recently rediscovered pool, Times Books has revamped and redesigned this classic guide to the sport. Here's the low-down on how to play off the cushions, use the bridge, make curve shots, "Cheat the Pocket, " finesse a "Double Kiss, " and more. Photographs throughout.

    great tips

from the very start of this book you will progress smoothly. easy shots are in the starting pages then they get harder and harder.ray(coolcat) martin is a hall of famer.not too often do pool and billiard books stay current very long.i think willie mosconi is about the only one to do this in the past.this book is still in print for the past seventeen years.it gives you every kind of shot you can dream of and then some.very well illustrated and you can comprehend every page with ease. take your time and you will be playing like a pro in no time.give yourself an hour a day and you will not need a coach

    could be better

99 is a good book for a beginner so he could get a basic understanding of the game. The book is about how Ray Martin plays the game. There are much better books out there.

    Best Book on Pool

Having been a pool player for over 20 years and having run a pool hall in Chicago and played in 2 National Amatuer Championships in Vegas; this in my opinion is the best book on pool and does teach you the critical shots that you need to know to win and have in your arsenal of shots. It's the book when people ask me which I would recommend; this is the one. It's great to use when you go out to pratice also.

    Sweeet

This is a great book for developing effective and productive practice sessions. The only bad thing I can say is that I wished it was spiral bound so that I could lay it out on the table.
