Post-Genomic Cardiology
Recent advances in molecular and cellular biology have markedly changed our understanding of the heart. In the post-genomic era, molecular medicine provides the clinician with a large collection of resources of effective techniques to improve diagnostic and therapeutic options and offers significant insights into the pathophysiology and etiology of an array of cardiovascular diseases. Post-Genomic Cardiology presents the first comprehensive and critical evaluation the field of cardiovascular molecular medicine. Notably, this book will provide the reader with sense of new directions in which molecular medicine may be applied.

A detailed primer presented in the beginning of the book outlines recent molecular, genetic, and cellular techniques. This is aimed at a broad audience that includes not only internists and clinical cardiologists, but also the medical school student, and the graduate/undergraduate student with limited knowledge of this molecular information. This is followed by critical and comprehensive discussions on the use of molecular, genetic, and cellular techniques used to identify the etiology and pathophysiology of specific cardiac diseases, as well as the diagnostic and therapeutic options available for infants, children, adults, and the aging population.

Key Features: Includes up-to-date discussions on aging and pediatric cardiology from a molecular perspective. Explains cutting-edge molecular techniques, including analysis of mitochondria and their role in cardiac dysfunction, and analysis of cardioprotection and metabolic syndrome. Surveys important cardiac abnormalities, such as, myocarditis and endocarditis. Discusses relevant genes, pathways, and expressionpatterns involved in each cardiovascular disease. Presents recent translational studies for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases including gene therapy, pharmacological treatments, and stem cell transplantation.
