Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The A-10 Thunderbolt is often called "the Warthog" by pilots because it is slower than most fighter planes and can carry a lot of weapons. This book is part of a set of military and nautical engineering books designed for children. The set is appropriately named "Cross-Sections" and the contents are heavy on the visuals. Some of the cross-sections shown in this book include an exploded view of the whole airplane, a cross-section of the engines, a view of the cockpit, a diagram of how the GPS system works, a diagram to show how the airplane's defenses work, how the bomb and missiles are carried on the aircraft, a diagram of the A-10's seven-barrel gun, a cross-section of a smart-weapon and diagrams of how they work, and a step-by-step view of a military flight mission. Each cross-section or diagram is accompanied by a brief but clear explanation within the text. The back matter includes an index, a bibliography, a glossary, and information about related Internet sites. This book is part of the "Edge Books Cross-Sections" series, which includes the titles The A-10 Thunderbolt, The AH-64 Apache Helicopter, The AV-8B Harrier Jump Jet, The B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber, The EA-6B Prowler, and The F/A-22 Raptor. 2006, Capstone Press/Edge Books, Ages 6 to 10.
