I could relate to this book having been a child in England during the same time, though we lived in the country. Our village was where the petrol supplies were kept so we were inundated with military people. Being on the main Birmingham to London road tanks etc rolled through constantly, so though no bombs the war did affect us the tin baths and bread & lard was very much part of our lives. Tin baths I don't miss the bread & lard I do miss. I found the book enjoyable to read, thanks
