Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
PreS-- The activities and objects that make up a toddler's world are illustrated here in pale, washed-out primary colors that are less than lively. Few words and simple rhymes take a toddler through a typical day from beginning to end. Hennessy catalogs waking in the morning; a young child's play; a ride in the stroller; a visit to the supermarket, library, and park; then bathtime and bedtime. Breakfast is ``Bowl, Spoon, Plate, Cup,'' while bathtime is ``Bath, Towel, Soap, Bubbles/ Splash, Kick, Little Puddles.'' The day ends with ``Lap, Clap, Peek-A-Boo/ Kisses, Hugs, I Love You.'' Introductory letters A-B-C-D are featured on a child's toy blocks and numbers from one through four can easily be detected on ``Roof, Chimney, Window, Door'' during a walk through town. Indoor settings such as kitchen, bedroom, and library appear cluttered, while street scenes and panoramic views of the town are busy, so that objects are not eye-catching and action is never clearly defined. The illustrations lack Anne Rockwell's simplicity of color and shape that work so well in a first book for the youngest set. --Megan McDonald, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh

The combination of form and content in the picture book format fascinated her and after graduation she headed for NYC where she worked for 17 years in children's book publishing as a designer and art director. She is the author of Road Builders and The First Night, as well as many books starring Corduroy, the loveable toy bear created by Don Freeman. She now lives with her family in Arizona.
