Overview

Mary grows up sheltered and secure in a beautiful cottage with a loving father. She learns lessons about humility, purity and forgiveness under her father's watchful gaze. However, it doesn't last. Even though she loves God and obeys him this does not protect her ultimately from the envy and hatred of others. Mary is given a generous gift of a new dress from her friend Amelia, the daughter of the local landowner. This incites envy from Juliette, Amelia's maid who had wanted the dress for herself. When Amelia's mother's ring goes missing Juliette decides to pass the blame onto Mary. Both Mary and her father are imprisoned for the crime and eventually exiled from their home. Mary learns to trust in God completely as difficulty follows after difficulty.Even when she doubts if she will ever clear her name she turns back to God who is a constant source of comfort to her. Who did steal the ring in the end? That is the final unexpected twist in the tale, which makes this book a really good read.

I was given this book by my grandfather as a christmas gift when I was 12yrs old, I am now 34yrs old. It was the first book that taught me spiritual guidelines for living. I have reread this book about twice after and its effect is the same on me. I have cried over this book but love most of all the values taught in this book. That no matter what difficulty you may find yourself in, once you trust God, He will bring you through it victoriously. I have recommended this book to most of my friends who I know enjoy reading. Definitely a keep sake book. Intend on keeping it for my children to read also.

I first read A BASKET OF FLOWERS when I was 14 years old and has read it twice more after that in my 20s . I am now 47 years old and still cannot get this book out of my system. Each time I read it I CRIED AND CRIED the memory of this book has helped in forming my character through the years and helped me to know that good always conquer evil and if you truly trust in God, He will defend you and exalt you in due season and no matter how long it seems the wicked will be punished. A BASKET OF FLOWERS is a must have for every library. I have been asking around for it for quite sometime without success until now. I thought it was out of print and was ecstatic when I found it at B&N. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

As a little girl i read a lot of books and this book 'A Bssket of Flowers' stayed in my mind until today as it is a book that one never forgets after they read it. I feel that every young person should get the opportunity to read this book and to know about it. It is the most beautiful story that a child could ever read. I wish that there was a book club on line where kids could see and know about different books.

This is the touching story of a young girl and her father. Originally written by a French author, and later translated into English, this is a book that is sure to be passed down from generation to generation. I am 12 years old and my mother just recently purchased this book for me. I wish every girl could have a copy of this book! Please, if you want your daughter to read wholesome, enjoyable, thought-provoking, and character building books I suggest you purchase A Basket of Flowers immediately!
