Overview
In this revision of his dissertation (written for a PhD in music at Florida State U.) Giray provides a biography of Saygun, a description of the Turkish modes used in his music, a survey of the folk elements in Saygun's works for violin, an analysis of his Suite for violin and piano, and an annotated list of his works with a discography. Giray (music, Pittsburg State U.), a musician conversant in western and Turkish music, traveled in his native Turkey to study folk music as part of his research for this work. The biography and analysis of Saygun is based in part on critical sources in Turkish. Annotation ©2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
