Overview

Delta Force operative Kyle Garland divorced his wife to protect her. His top-secret missions expose him to constant danger, and his world is full of lies and deceit. But the threat to Aimee doesn’t come in the form of insurgents or bombs. Rather, his soul-deep love and the dreams he silently nurtures are her greatest hazard. When a career-ending injury brings him home for Christmas, to keep her safe he must bury his feelings and hide the monster he’s become.

Fourteen months ago, Aimee had the perfect marriage… then Kyle blindsided her with a divorce. Now, he’s coming home, and she intends to get her answers. Yet the crippled man she confronts bears scars her years of nursing cannot heal. The secret he’s hiding is tearing him apart. No matter how she tries, he keeps her at a distance, despite the love that’s still evident in his kiss. What Aimee doesn’t know is her own damaged past terrifies Kyle more than any wartime horror.

As she forces him to confront his demons, will the holiday shred the fragile bonds they share, or will Christmas complete all their broken parts?

Reviewed by Robin Review originally posted at Romancing the Book No one really knows what men or women in the military go through when they return from Afghanistan. Ms. Ashgrove seems to be able to reach into the soul of our hero and see the depths of pain he has seem and dealt with and what he is going through now. Especially as he comes back injured and ashamed of what he did over there. Kyle Garland, Delta Force special ops, divorces his wife Aimee to protect her. Aimee having gone through a miscarriage earlier isn’t going to give up on her husband. Aimee, although now an ex-wife is still very much in love with her husband and isn’t going to give up quietly. She wants answers and when Kyle’s best friend won’t give them to her she decides she will find those answers herself. Something happened over there that changed that man she loves and she wants answers. In the meantime Kyle has to deal with the Christmas holidays and the nurturing and comfort of his ex. Will it be enough to mend the mental and physical scars that he is carrying around? In order to heal he must confront the ghosts and secrets. A BROKEN CHRISTMAS is one exceptional book! I can hardly describe the feelings that Ms. Ashgrove put into this story. What a wonderful job with the characters, so much so that you felt the pain that Kyle and Aimee had dealing with the scars and the love that they still felt for each other. What a wonderful impact she had with the depth of emotion that our military people go through. I wanted to read more and was sorry to see the story end. A very satisfying emotional story, that everyone who reads will immediately fall in love with.
