I lost my 19 year old, college freshman son 3 years ago. He was handsome, intelligent, athletic, compassionate, and loved by so many. This journey of pain is brutal and unending. There is never a time that I read from this book and fail to marvel at how other's words give voice to the pain that I endure. A passage, a sentence, a phrase...I read and say, 'Yes, that's it. That's it exactly.' And then, I realize that their words surface from the same pool of pain that drowns my words. I am grateful to Anne and Mary for this book and for their words that introduce each chapter. We are the same.
