Overview

Book 1 of the Hot City Nights contemporary romance series is a 224-page steamy romantic suspense “so full of fiery emotions and blistering passion, not to mention the wonderful characters, I closed the last page with a huge smile on my lips.” Rendezvous

Mansfield, New Jersey, is burning up building by building—each fire more devastating than the last—and it’s Irish born police detective Jamie Keegan’s job to bring the “Firefly,” as the arsonist has dubbed himself, to justice. He balks when his captain orders him to consult the beautiful and enigmatic India Cook, who has offered her services as a psychic to the police department.

Jamie views India as a con artist. The fact that India doesn’t like to be touched—that’s how she reads people—is only more of a challenge, because she’s just about the most smoking hot woman he’s ever met. Convinced she’s a con artist, Jamie tries to deny the chemistry simmering between them as they work together to stop the Firefly before he can strike again.

A Burning Touch, Book 1 of the Hot City Nights series of steamy contemporary romances with urban settings, is a full-length, professionally edited romantic mystery with no cliffhanger. It can be read and enjoyed independently from the rest of the series.

“Ever a master of characterization and sexual tension, Patricia Ryan creates a sizzling romantic suspense about the thin line between passion and anguish sure to heat up our reading pleasure!” RT BookReviews

“A steamy, sizzling, and thoroughly entertaining novel... The pacing is swift… a bonfire of passion. Way to go, Pat Ryan!” Affaire de Coeur

“The most remarkable aspect of this novel is the author’s empathic treatment of India’s [psychic] condition. This situation creates some unique sexual tension, including the well-handled description of desire in a man’s mind. Women reading romances are occasionally treated to token narratives about passion and desire from a hero’s point of view. Author Patricia Ryan takes that point of view one step further, with fascinating results. Readers will not want to put this one down until they have reached the satisfying happy ending.” Gothic Journal

A Burning Touch is just great. Both India and Jamie are compelling characters, who struggle with their own pasts. They have to work together in order to solve a rash of arsons, which of course rubs cop Jamie the wrong way. Patricia Ryan's writing is strong and compelling. I highly reccomend giving this book and all of Ryan's work a try.

A lot Happens!! This is my first book by Ms. Ryan and I loved it. I won't go into the plot, as it has been explained already, but this is a wonderful story. My heart ached for India and all the sadness she had in her life. Jamie, was pig headed over India's gift, but you soon learn why. There is love making, but it is tender, sensual and not of the erotica type. I loved the feather in the story, oh how I could visualize it!!!! I bought this book as part of the bundle, called Bodyguard, which is a great deal - 5 author's - no cliff hangers. This is a great read, well worth your time and money. (ljb)

Detective Jamie Keegan has had personal experience with fake psychics claiming to have information for the police. So when his boss asks that he work with a psychic on his current arson case, he is astonished. Even more so, when he gets a look at India Cook...absolutely drop-dead gorgeous with the most unbelievable eyes. India is not comfortable with her psychic abilities, but she cannot ignore the information she received related to this arson case. While she senses a physical attractraction to Detective Keegan, there is no ignoring the disdain he feels towards her "so called" psychic ability. Can they manage to work together to solve this case before it destroys more than just properties? I liked how the story started with India's back story before jumping to the present. While this is a romance novel, it also provides a good mystery as the arson investigation progresses. Warning: there is some explicit sex contained in this book. Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Dr. India Cook, a veterinarian, has ESP and is a psychic. She protects herself by wearing gloves to avoid human touch. When she touches someone she not only hears their thoughts but receives images of recent events involving that person. Her abilities started when she was twelve and then went away until they returned, during her marriage, when she was struck by lightning. India has since divorced her husband, who was abusive, and has moved away to try to hide her abilities. This works until she realizes that she has information that might help in an investigation into a series of arson fires. India goes to the police and meets Lt. Jamie Keegan. She tells Jamie what she knows and he does not believe her but thinks that she is a con artist. Jamie’s captain insists that he work with India and danger and romance ensues. This was a wonderful love story and a mystery that had me involved from the very beginning. I really enjoyed this book and was unable to put it down once the story grabbed me during the prologue. A must read!! I did receive a free copy of this book in return for an honest and fair review. Ms. Ryan’s writing style is fresh and keeps you turning the page! (by paytonpuppy)

Jamie, a detective working on an arson case, sure doesn’t believe in ESP or trust psychics and consequently has a hard time accepting the help of one named India, even at his captain’s request. But Jamie also has a hard time fighting his attraction to India while they work on finding the elusive arsonist. The arson case took some decidedly scary and dangerous turns as Jamie and India worked on their unusual relationship and made for a very well-written, exciting story. A complimentary copy of the book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
