Bubble... Bubble...

June Heal has nothing to lose when she relocates her homeopathic cure shop, A Dose of Darla, from the flea market booth in her home town, to a quaint shop in the cozy but unusual little town of Whispering Falls, Kentucky. Or so it seems.

Cures and trouble...

Whispering Falls has a lot of secrets. From talking snow globes to whispering animals not to mention a few sprinkles of fairy dust, June realizes Whispering Falls is more magical than she thought. . .literally.

Magic stirs...

June discovers she was born into a family of psychics, and her homeopathic cures truly are magical. Unfortunately, they are not magical enough to save her from being the number one murder suspect when a member of the community that she had just had a disagreement with shows up face down in the lake with June’s lucky charm in the victim’s grasp.

And troubles double...

Add to that an attraction to her high school best friend, Sheriff Oscar Park and Mr. Prince Charming, her cat, is stealing charms from Belle’s Baubles, June is forced to clear her name in more ways than murder. After all, they don’t have cauldrons in jail.

This is the first in the Charmed series, and it hooked me. June is quirky and just real enough to make it easy to relate to her. I love her Ding Dong addiction. The supporting characters are great from the cranky nosey neighbor, to her handsome best friend. Love the twists and turns in this story as Junes life takes it's own twists and turns, from moving, to solving a murder that has her name written all over it. Thank goodness for her loyal cat Mr. Prince Charming who seems to be the only true friend she has left in her life. If you love magic, and mystery then you should love this book. Hats off to Tonya for a well told story.

I absolutely loved "A Charming Crime". This is definitely a must read especially if you are a fan of cozy mysteries. Tonya Kappes has a way of taking you right into the life of June Heal and the magical world of Whispering Falls. It's a great book to kick back, grab a cup of coffee and get lost in. I couldn't put it down because I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I can't wait to return to Whispering Falls with June,Mr.Prince Charming and all of the other fun characters when the next book in the series comes out. Hurry up August!!

A new magical world of spells, charms, and murder

A Charming Crime is a great mystery, a super fun book with characters that will have your heart, and is hard to put down until you have devoured the entire book. She is put into a world of the funniest characters. There is a talking crystal ball that had me cracking up with her snarky comments, plus Mr. Prince Charming (the white cat) is a bonus to the book. She had me smiling from page to page. Truly magical, fun, and I can't wait until the next on in the series! Warning - do not read the end first. It's a winner. Tonya Kappes has created a completely original world of potions, secrets, and murder that is sure to appeal to fans of HP Mallory and Rose Pressey.

This was an okay read. About 470 pages

This free, 470 page book is book one, in a series of seven. Each of the others are $2.99 each. This book was not very well edited. I think there were mistakes on every page. I did not mind the poor punctuation as much as I did the left out or added words. There were other errata as well. This was a rather strange book. It was about a village of people with various types of paranormal activity. I like the cat, Prince Charming, the best of all the characters. He was the most beleavable. There are spells, of which some were a tad funny, no romance or sex, some violence, several older murders and several new murders. These were nondescriptive. There were some convolutions in the plot. This was an okay read. It was almost like a YA book. It did not have much depth. Even though longer than most novels, I read it in about three hours so it goes fast and has a good flow. Chick lit, ages 13 and up.

Writer needs to reread her work

You can tell the author had several rewrites because the book jumps around too much and the main characters focus and knowledge of the situation changes without the reader understanding what happened in the interveining period. At ine point she leads readers to assume a second death has happened. Also the confrontation with Jordan Parks over her father happens twice. It reads like she changed her mind one too many times on the direction and executuion of the story and didnt bother to proof read it herself or have anyone else do it for her.

Ding dong ding dong ding dong

I'm going to be seeing ding dongs in me sleep. If I ate as many ding dongs as this chick, I'd be 500 pounds. Punctuation and grammer....pshaw who needs 'em. The story gets a slow start, but picks up a little when Ms. Ding Dong sells her house in a day and moves everything in no time at all. The ending seemed rushed and too much info was crammed into the last chapter. Not my fave.

This book is so poorly written, rife with grammatical errors and sorely in need of a good editor.  I only made it through three chapters and couldn't take any more.  I can ignore some of those issues if there is a good story.  Sadly, not to be found here.

    Ok

Around page 300 out of 415 things start getting interesting. Before that, it was very Harry-Potter-ish with it's over the top characters, unbelievable overreactions, and fairytale setting. Not that there's anything wrong with that, though. This is suitable for tweens and older. Some typos. But hey, it was free!

    CHRISTINA

I really enjoyed this book, however it isn't a romance and there is absolutely no attraction between her and Oscar. I was hoping to figure out more about Mr. Charming too. A lot of the unanswered questions were left unanswered as if the book needs to go on. Maybe there will be a prequel if this
    is a series....I hope so.

    Really enjoyed this book.

Tonya continues to write books that are difficult to put down once started. No grafic sex or bad language which I appreciate. This was a charming story that I was able to read to my hospice patient without having to edit out things that would have offended her. She enjoyed it every bit as much as I did. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Another good series from Tonya Kappes!

I love my woo-woo mysteries and A Charming Crime did not disappoint!

June Heal is making a living selling homeopathic cures at flea markets, using recipes developed by her late mother, Darla.  The book opens as June's lab/shed burns to the ground.  Then a strange woman makes her an offer to move to a place called Whispering Falls.  Her long-time best friend (and more???), Oscar, decides to leave the local police force and take a job in a Whispering Falls and tells June she needs to move there and open a shop.

Whispering Falls is quaint and...different.  Talking snow globes, whispering animals, VERY interesting characters...and June knows she ain't in Kansas anymore!  She soon learns there's a reason her "homeopathic cures" work the way they do, and why she seems to "sense" what a customer needs.

June's the new girl in town, and is a prime suspect when a body is found (it doesn't help that June had a run-in with the victim).  She's not sure Oscar's up to the challenge of investigating so she decides to clear her name.  With her companion cat, Prince Charming and her Ding-Dongs, June's determined to prove her innocence!
