I Also Recommend:
This is the fourth book in the Charming series. A series of magical mystery books. If you love a good mystery and if you love magic you will not go wrong with this book. I loved it. June is in deep trouble this time. Life in Whispering Falls has taken on some major changes. Is June ready to become president of the community? Why does someone have to commit a murder right in front of her shop? Who broke into the local bakery? And why are so many stray animals showing up in Whispering Falls? June has to not only face having her shop closed and being under investigation for the murder, but she also seems to have something in her shop that she can not let anyone know about. Prince Charming is not being very helpful. Oscar the town sheriff has been taken off the case and the new sheriff seems to be convinced June is the only person who is guilty. June isn't getting much help from her friends, if anything the people in Whispering Falls just seem to be giving her more mysteries to solve while she tries to clear her own name. The characters are quirky and fun. You will not believe the twists and turns this book takes. I can not wait to see what the next book has in store for all the people living in Whispering Falls.

I found A Charming Wish to be well...charming.
I loved all the detail Tonya put into the book. I was actually able to picture the characters and the events taking place. The mystery of who done it and why kept me guessing and I can say I was surprised with the who and why.
Strange things start to happen in Whispering Falls when spiritualist June Heal comes across a genie bottle in her homeopathic cure shop, A Charming Cure. June is accused of murder and she has to find out who is framing her and why. Things get worse when those she thought were her friends get upset with her and tell everyone who will listen that they think she is guilty. With the help of her Fairy God Cat, Mr. Prince Charming, her moody and opinionated crystal ball, Madame Torres, and Belur the genie, June has to find out who the true killer is.
This is only the second book that I've read from Tonya and the series but I can tell you that everything flowed well and I didn't feel like I missed out by not reading the previous books. With that being said, I was a little disappointed by some of the events. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series, hoping that it will make everything right in the Whispering Falls world again. (Fingers and toes are crossed!)

A Charming Wish centers on June Heal, a recently rediscovered homeopathic psychic potion maker. Having only lived in town a short while, the village president decides that she would like to step down and offer June the job. Ironically, June doesn't seem to care much about reading through the guidelines manual during her first two novels, but that's ok, she'll catch up later. Meanwhile, as she preps for the ceremony she finds a jinni in a bottle left by one of her suppliers. June is desperate to find its owner, but several events take place leaving her in the hot seat again when someone is killed outside her gate.
Overall, I really like this series. The characters are charming. However, I felt that Oscar acted out of character during this novel. Yes, he wants to help June, but he does the one thing that would hurt her the most. Then I'm angry at June for not doing the same thing for him. If June and Oscar were really meant to be together, than she should have made the same sacrifice. Oscar's memories would have reflected that and they could have likely still be at the same spot in their relationship. The least she could have done is to ask if that was a possibility.
I half expected there to be some point in the novel where the reader finds out that Oscar was under a spell or was under the influence of another magic user. I half expected it throughout the following novel as well. Maybe I'll get my wish and we'll see something like that happen in the fifth novel of the series.

I found book three in this series to be just as fun and delightful as the first two! Mystery, romance, drama, and throw in a touch of magic and what's not to like! The new character Belur the genie was a fun new add and I hope he comes back from time to time to visit Whispering Falls! Can't wait for the next one Tonya! :)Was this review helpful? In A Charming Wish by Tonya Kappes, June is once again embroiled in a mystery and this time it landed at the door of her shop...literally! Who killed Kenny? Ugh...the author really needs to stop making references to pop culture. Anyway, June needs to figure this one out because unlike before she really is in big trouble with a capital "T". And to top it all off, she's just been named Village President.
Worst of all, there have been some additional crimes around town and her name is written all over them. An ostrich is missing, the recipes for June's Gems has been stolen and now June has been banished from Whispering Falls until this whole thing can be sorted. Does someone have it in for June? Well, she's not going to sit this one out, no matter what the Order of Elders tell her. She has to find out who is involved in all these horrible deeds, no matter how bad it looks around town that she has been asking a bunch of questions.
June will now have to be resourceful and use her sleuthing talents to find the answers she seeks. Along the way she gets a little help from a few people and begins to piece together the clues one by one. Too bad that Oscar...whoops! Oh no! I am not going to reveal that secret! You'll just have to read the book to find out.
I found that this story was delightfully refreshing after the dismal failure of the previous one. Despite the one reference...well two if you actually think about it, but truthfully, it was fun to actually see how the two support characters of June actually went at it with each other. It made for a nice twist on the antagonist part of the storyline and kept your mind off of the mystery, or shall we say, several mysteries going on.
There is sort of a sad part to the story that affects two of the characters, but I will leave my readers to find that out. Needless to say, I don't think this is the end of June, Mr. Prince Charming, Oscar and the rest of the residents of Whispering Falls. Ms. Kappes, you have redeemed yourself!

This is the third book in the Magical Cures mystery series by Tonya Kappes. This story takes place about 1 year after the end of book 2, A Charming Cure. Life is pretty good for June Heal. Oscar Parks, the Sheriff of Whispering Falls and her best friend since childhood, is now officially acknowledged as her boyfriend and her shop A Charming Cure is doing very well. June has managed to become a full fledged member of the Whispering Falls community. But all that is about to change.
With a dire prediction about a storm brewing, June decides to make up a protection potion. Unfortunately, it is a level 28 spell, and though June has gone to Hidden Hall, the Spiritualist University for Intuition training, this level spell was not covered in her basic training. June presses on and when it comes time to select a bottle for her potion, finds that the bottle her Native American smudge grass supplier had left behind with his last delivery is the one wanting to be used. But when June opens the bottle, she gets quite a surprise to see a genie appear.
June's well ordered life starts to flip upside down. First by being unexpectedly promoted to Village President and then almost immediately being put on suspense and her shop closed due to suspicion of murder. Next, accused of robberies and finally, losing Oscar due to a magical contract misunderstanding. June must focus on her Intuition, her fairy god-cat Mr. Prince Charming and figuring out just who exactly is trying to frame her. All while trying not to be caught with an illegal in Whispering Falls genie.
This was a great book and I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads. June stumbles from one situation to another, trying to do her best to do the right thing, but clearly needing more training. Even though she has been in Whispering Falls for a while now, and is quickly learning the Spiritual and Magical ropes, having grown up in the mundane world still put quite the stamp on her responses. And can cause quite the stir in the Spiritual community. If you enjoy a campy, fun filled book, this series is a must read.
