How do you know if your children are truly safe?

How do you know if your children are truly safe? They may seem happy, you know they can talk to you about anything and you know them so very well - but you may not know what they are secretly being forced to endure! Are your children being abused and forced into silence? Children may pretend nothing is wrong but you cannot trust or believe what you see or hear - you must dig and investigate to be sure!

Claire Silva believed her children were living normal children's lives and had the regular fears and nightmares of all children - but unexpectedly, their lives were turned upside down when she learned that what she believed to be true was terribly wrong! Her children were being tortured and abused by their older half-brother during the night while the rest of the family slept because abusers are cunning!!!

This author was very courageous in the face of many parents' worst fears as she soldiered out of her comfort zone to learn all she could about childhood sexual abuse: how it could happen and how her children kept the abuser's actions secret despite the horrendous terror and pain they were enduring. The boys knew they could talk to their parents about anything - yet they couldn't tell.

When she discovered the social support existed primarily for the perpetrator rather than for her family, she relied on the support of close friends and relatives and interviewed adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse to learn how she could best help and support her children. Claire shares what she learned with readers who, at some point in time, will probably need to know.

A Child's Heart Speaks: Surviving Sexual Abuse is written to help other parents of abused children and to help other parents to protect children. Ms Silva also shares the difficulties families face in maneuvering the legal systems - especially if the perpetrator is a juvenile. This book contains valuable information about the tactics abusers use to manipulate a child and commit their crimes in secrecy. She pleads with parents to understand that sexual abuse can happen to anyone, anywhere, at anytime - given only the slightest opportunity. A Child's Heart Speaks: Surviving Sexual Abuse offers parents skills to protect their children, support to families whose children have been violated, strength for other adult survivors, and serves as a resource for professionals who work with children and families.

Our hearts go out to her boys and all abused children!
