Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Debra Lampert-Rudman
This Christmas-themed book is one of Capstone Press’s “First Facts” series of “Holiday Sketchbook” titles that also cover Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, and Halloween. This one features nine simple Christmas-themed projects that require only pencil, paper, erasers, and colored pencils or markers. The introduction “Unwrap the Magic” invites young readers to draw Christmas in no time with an illustration of a happy elf holding a pencil. “Deck the Halls” (drawing ornaments), “Candy Canes” (drawing a row of candy canes with ribbons), “No-Melt Man” (drawing a smiling snowman with hat and carrot nose), “Skating Fun” (drawing a skating penguin wearing a cap), and “Home Sweet Home” (drawing an elaborate gingerbread house) are just some of the projects. Each one features at least 4 distinct step-by-step drawing instructions. A final, color drawing of each is featured on the chapter’s facing page. The endpaper includes “Read More” and “Internet Sites” sidebars. Reviewer: Debra Lampert-Rudman; Ages 5 to 9.
