This was such a friendly book. Mary Jones came alive and drew me right into the action. I found myself pulling for the characters and hoping desperately that everything would turn out okay. This story really kept my attention. I enjoyed it!
Nice story but terrible grammar and sentence structure
A Christmas Gift for Mary Jones by Kimberly B. Jackson is a delightful and most enjoyable story for the Christmas season or for any time of the year. Mary Jones is only forty-five but all the people in her small town call her Grandmother. Unfortunately, Mary has no children and her husband William has recently died. Teresa and her four-year-old daughter, Emma, appear on Mary’s porch and Teresa says that Mary’s late husband is her father. Mary happily takes Teresa and Emma into her home and treats them as her own. Teresa soon grabs the attention of Tom, the sheriff of the town. Emma is kidnapped by Teresa’s ex-husband and even though Tom is working to find Emma, Mary and Teresa realize that they need to stop relying on themselves and rely on God to help them find Emma. The author did a very good job in the development of the plot of the story. There were several twists and turns and each one just added interest to the story. Characters were so well developed that they came to life on the pages of the book. During all the scenes, I felt as if I were right in the middle of what was going on for they were so well written and the dialogue was always interesting and believable. The story grabbed my interest on the first page and held it until the last page. This was a great inspirational story that dealt with faith, love, suspense, romance, and family. And there was even some Christmas magic. I would like to have known if William was married to Teresa’s mother and was a widower when he married Mary. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read an inspiring and uplifting Christmas story that also includes romance and even some suspense.. Prism Book Group provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Reviewed by Katelyn Hensel for Readers' Favorite Christmas stories and novellas are some of my favorite things from the Christmas season. They are right up there with gingerbread cookies and Christmas trees and, for me, date back to a time when my mom would read fun stories about Santa and reindeer all December long. Full of warmth, good spirit, and cheerful inspiration, A Christmas Gift for Mary Jones is everything I look for in my feel-good Christmas reading package. Kimberly B. Jackson takes us into the world of Mary Jones, a down to earth and selfless woman who worked hard and lived her life in a simple, caring way. Mary is a nice, sweet character. She's really easy to relate to with a caring nature and a 'hard work' ethic. When she finds out that her husband has a daughter and a granddaughter that he never told her about, she reacts with love and calm, instead of a typical reaction, which would be anger, hate, and suspicion. Teresa and her little girl Emma have lived a hard life. Teresa's mother has passed on and the two are left relatively alone, and pretty poor. Theresa's last hope is to meet the father that she never knew, but is surprised to find that it's too late. The story was a wonderful, almost prodigal son kind of tale, with a few different twists. I really enjoyed it and it really set the tone of family warmth that I enjoy. What a perfect way to get into the Christmas Season!
Widow, Mary Jones, never had children and despite her age of forty-five some people called her Grandmother Jones. She was always ready to pitch in and help out. She missed her husband, William, terribly and often imagined she saw him walking the farm with his white German Shepherd, Major. One day Mary came in from her chores to find an adorable little girl sitting at her table and the girl’s mother, Teresa, looking for William. She told Mary he was her father. Undaunted by the information, Mary takes in Teresa and Emma. As the story unfolds, Teresa falls in love with the sheriff, Tom, but before the romance blossoms, Mary and Teresa desperately need Tom to solve the mystery of Mary’s slashed ties and the unexplained smoke Mary has spotted coming from a fire on her property. Ms. Jackson writes a remarkable story of acceptance and faith and the wonderful magic of Christmas for a little girl. There’s even a recipe.
Delightful book, appropriate for any time of year, but especially around Christmas. Why? Because it reminds me what really makes the holidays special. I loved the characters, the story line, and the way the novella was written. Want to know the definition of heartwarming? Just read A Christmas Gift for Mary Jones!
