Alexis Fletcher hasn't had a merry Christmas in five years-not since her mother passed away. Every December she remembers the joy her mother brought to everyone during the holiday season and feels the pain of her absence, even more so now that she and her sister are barely speaking. More than anything, Alexis wishes her family could be whole again.

However, with her wedding fast approaching, Alexis might just be ready to make some holiday memories with a new family of her own. Alexis's fiancé, Chase Dupont, is everything she ever dreamed of. He's kind, handsome, fully supportive of Alexis's career, and the CEO of a large company. But outside forces threaten to derail this happy couple from ever reaching the altar.

As tensions rise, a dramatic event causes Alexis to question everything. Will fate give her what she needs to finally embrace the season that has brought her so much pain? Will Alexis get her wish for a happy holiday? Or will her Christmas prayer go unanswered?

Roby takes a break from Rev. Curtis Black's shenanigans to write a Christmas novella featuring Alexis Fletcher, for whom the holidays have been anything but joyous since the death of her mother, who truly entered into the spirit of things. Now that Alexis is about to marry, a surprise event has her humming carols again. With a 100,000-copy first printing.
Kirkus Reviews
2014-09-28
Five years after her mother passed away, Alexis Fletcher is still plunged into grief every Christmas season. Alexis would much rather take a few sleeping pills and fall into oblivion than decorate a tree. Despite her depression, she does as Rev. Black asks and writes a Christmas prayer pleading for happiness. It's hard to muster much sympathy for Alexis, who practices a rather self-centered version of Christianity. Prayer becomes simply a series of "requests to God," who apparently wants nothing more than for his children to be happy and financially stable. Indeed, Alexis suffers in the lap of luxury. She has a ridiculously high-paying job as a motivational speaker, which allows her to make her own hours, to travel, to take care of those she loves without batting an eye. Saddled with an emotionally abusive slacker of a husband, her sister, Sabrina, is loath to ask for Alexis' help. Alexis certainly has the financial means to pay their bills, but will her Christian faith be strong enough to turn the other cheek, letting bygones be bygones? Alexis' fiance, Chase Dupont III, is a gorgeous and wealthy Prince Charming whom Rev. Black hand-selected for her. Chase's mother, Geneva, hates Alexis, however, and plots to sabotage their engagement. Alexis spots Geneva's tricks, but Chase is blind to them. How long before he will have to choose between his idyllic past and his future happiness? Roby's (The Prodigal Son, 2014, etc.) latest romance in the best-selling Reverend Curtis Black series is unfortunately marred by stilted, clunky phrasing ("She would feel sorry for Alexis for having to live in such a paltry manner"). The tale itself resembles "Cinderella" wandering into A Christmas Carol. Fans will be happy to read Rev. Black's further adventures, but this latest installment won't win him any new ones.
From the Publisher
"Roby writes with high-octane levels of emotion. She pushes her characters hard, spotlighting their flaws, showcasing their weaknesses, drawing in the readers to be more than bystanders."

    Not her best

I have read almost all of her books and they have all delivered and been great, but this one was very lack luster. It had its good moments but those were few and far between. I felt that the story line was boarderline flat and so much more couod havr developed. She will always be my favorite author, but this one could have been way better

A Christmas Prayer, is a dramatic novella - the story opens during Black Friday.
Alexis Fletcher and Chase Dupont III are young, in love, and engaged, and they just happen to be
abstaining from intimate relations prior to their wedding, which is more than six months away.
Although they find it challenging at times to keep from indulging their physical desires, that
constraint fails in comparison to the outside forces that threatens to break them apart.
Mistletoe and holly are not the focus of this story...but it is laced with refreshing encouragement.

The main characters in ACP are quite impressive as is the plot. Roby lets us see into the inner thoughts,
drives, desires, and secrets some which are unique and surprising. Alexis and Chase are anything but
basic. Other characters are a bit interesting as well, everyone in the story comes across as fascinating,
    realistic and polished.

It’s an exciting and easy read, with subtle messages, some that are bound to teach readers some
serious lessons about life, love, acceptance, and forgiveness.

Get the holidays off to a lively start with, A Christmas Prayer - it is short, charming, and sprinkled with
romance. A refreshing read anytime of the year.

I pre-ordered A Christmas Prayer for my NOOK prior to it's release, and it was truly a solid investment! This was my first time reading the work of author Kimberla Lawson Roby and I basically completed reading the book in two days. I most certainly look forward to reading other pieces by her.

"A Christmas Prayer" by Kimberla Lawson Roby

    Book Description....

"Alexis Fletcher hasn't had a merry Christmas in five years-not since her mother passed away. Or will her Christmas prayer go unanswered?"

What I liked about this novel....

"A Christmas Prayer" was a beautifully told Christmas love story of Alexis and Chase with a lots of twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat in this easy quick read. However, before we can get to the wedding there will be some down falls for Alexis who is still grieving from her mother's death, their will be conflict with her sister Sabrina and a future mother in law Geneva. Be prepared for drama! This author really works her magic as she presents to the reader such a amazing good story. All of the characters were off the chart good, well developed, well portrayed giving the reader a intriguing well written storyline. Truly the heroine Alexis was one special person with such a genuine heart. It was very interesting seeing how this author has some real issues presented with such details that could come up from a wedding, family and a holiday. But what is so unique is the 'power of 'A Christmas Prayer.' Thanks to the author for giving the reader a good read that I would recommend to others to read.
