    PA Student

Highly recommended, my peers and I use this as an easy and quick guide with our class notes and texts. Written in very organized outlines which made it easy for me to follow.

As a PA student this is a great addition to study guides for the PANCE.

    Unorganized outline

My biggest gripe with this book is how topics are outlined. Instead of covering one disease at a time, they list several related diseases in each paragraph. Then they list clinical features for all of them. Then labs for all of them. You basically have to jump around to put all the information together for one disease.

This book appears to be an outline of Currents in Medicine. If they kept it organized like Currents, but just took the key points, it would be an excellent review book. I find it too disorganized to study directly from, so I'm doing a lot of (time-consuming) outlining myself.

Another thing that would be very helpful is to have room on each page to add notes; since it's so concise, it would be nice to be able to study along with a medicine book and add your own notes.

I took my original PANCE in 1997, and completed the Pathway II in 2004. The Pathway II was so difficult, I swore I would just take the PANRE this year.
I practice dermatology, and have done so for ten years. I have not used a stethoscope in 10 years, not seen an EKG in ten years, nor looked at an X ray in ten years. I was going to go to a review seminar, but, review seminars can't be nearly as fun as dermatology CME conferences, so I decided to buy this review book instead.
I spent nine weeks reviewing, using only this book, and my laptop to gain more knowledge when I felt deficient with a particular condition (emedicine.com). I studied monday though Friday for 1-2 hours each night, after the kids fell asleep, for nine weeks, again, only using this text and emedicine.com.
I took the PANRE three days ago, and received my results today, which is why I'm writing this review, today. I PASSED! The minimum passing score was 379, and I scored 545. I took the pre test. I read the body of the text twice. I took the post test. Finally, I would test myself using the online questions, after reading two chapters, testing myself in those two areas. If i felt deficient, I read that particular chapter over again. One other tid bit...I took one online exam offered by NCCPA ($35). It reassured me that I was "capable." Nothing can replace good training from PA school. That knowledge seemed to come back readily with the help of this review. That said, if you need a real in-depth review, something like the CMDT would of course be more appropriate. Good luck!

Provides a nice outline of topics to review

I like the way this book breaks down the categories that should be reviewed before boards. It is still very limiting because it gives very limited information for each subject, however it is a nice start.
