A Cow in My Parlourby Peggy Grayson
A Cow in My Parlour is an amusing look at farming in the 1950s, the sequel to Buttercup Jill in which Peggy Grayson recounted her early life on farms and in the Women's Land Army. Grayson married an aspiring actor, rather than a farmer, but he soon gave up the profession and embarked on farming life with some trepidation. Their adventures on various farms and the characters they encountered are related with Grayson's typical humour. She shows her fortitude in the face of suicidal pigs, flooded fields, plagues of mice and rats, falling thatch, escaping heifers and other disasters. Many a chuckle can be had in meeting the Gurkha major turned cowman, the dairymaid who tried to blow up the dairy, and the man who danced with cows.
