In a captivating novel spiced with holiday magic—perfect for fans of Rachel Gibson, Susan Mallery, and Molly O’Keefe—a rugged Montana man mends a Northeast girl’s jaded heart.
Boston veterinarian Hayley Scampini tends the city’s pampered pets but dreams of the rural life of a country vet. She’s single and determined to stay that way, convinced that love isn’t permanent enough to trust. Then a vacation to the Whisper Creek dude ranch introduces her to Daniel McKee, a sexy single dad who runs the kind of veterinary practice she aspires to—and rattles her conviction to keep men at a distance.
Managing a thriving practice, coping with the loss of his wife, and fighting a custody battle with his in-laws over his twin daughters, Daniel couldn’t be more overwhelmed. Hayley is a godsend, accompanying him in the field and winning over his girls. It doesn’t take Daniel long to realize he’s falling for this woman, hard and fast. So before Hayley returns to Boston, he extracts a promise: that she will return to Whisper Creek for Christmas. It’s the perfect time and place to show Hayley that the promise of a beautiful life together is something she can believe in.

I liked this story quite a bit. Possibly even a little more than Kyla's story. I think it's because both Daniel and Hayley are animal lovers. Plus, they were pretty darn cute. The attraction was pretty quick, but Hayley doesn't like serious, and she certainly didn't want to lead Daniel on, so the romance was gradual. I love the Dude Ranch setting. I can't wait for more fictional trips to Montana! The ARC of A Cowboy's Christmas Promise by Maggie McGinnis  was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.

Loved it!  Funny, romantic, sweet and it even made my shed a few tears.  Daniel and Hayley's love story is slow building, but so worth it in the end. Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.  Can't wait for the next one!  ARC via NetGalley

This was an amazing book! I laughed out loud, cried, and just couldn't put it down. I love the main characters, Daniel, Bryn, Gracie, and Haley. I fell in love with each of them and couldn't wait to find out how it turned out. I don't usually buy books (I look for freebies and get books from my library), but I am definitely going to purchase this whole series so I can see what happens next. If you're looking for a book that will just make you feel good, this is a definite read. Enjoy!

RATING 4.5 STARS A Cowboy’s Christmas Promise is book two in the Whisper Creek series by Maggie McGinnis. This is my first book by this author. I really had no idea what to expect except that I fell in love with the cover. I was oh so pleasantly surprised. Daniel McKee is a large animal Vet in Whisper Creek, Montana. Daniel is the only Vet in the area so he is on the go non-stop which doesn’t leave him very much time for his two twin adorable little girls, Gracie and Bryn. These two little angels are going to steal your heart. They completely stole the book, for me anyway. They were precious. Daniel is on his own raising these two little angels because he lost his wife to cancer two years ago. He loved his wife with everything he had. After she died, he moved his girls from Denver where they had been living to Montana where his mother lived so start fresh. Hayley Scampini is also a Vet living in Boston. But her clientele tends to be much smaller in size. Her practice caters to show dogs and cats. It’s a practice that was literally handed to her so she didn’t have any say in the matter. She would give anything to break out of this area but she doesn’t see a way to make that happen. She is on her way to Whisper Creek for her best friends wedding. Hayley doesn’t believe in love. In her experience, men don’t stick around so it’s better not to give them a chance to hurt her. But she wouldn’t be opposed to a fling with one of the sexy cowboys at Whisper Creek. What she didn’t plan on is meeting the delicious vet and his two adorable little girls. She sure didn’t plan on falling for him either. “Falling in love doesn’t mean you lose yourself, Hayls. Sometimes it means you find yourself.” Right from the start there was a connection between Hayley and Daniel. And weddings have a way of bringing out the romantic in all of us. So was that all it was? Or could it be more? Hayley goes back to Boston after her two weeks at Whisper Creek are up. I loved the way that things developed from here. The way that Daniel slowly strengthened the friendship between them. Before Hayley knew it, she had a plane ticket in hand to return to Whisper Creek for Christmas. Daniel didn’t think he could ever love anyone else the way he had loved his Katie. But the feelings he is having for Hayley and watching her with his girls is opening his heart in a way he never thought possible. There is a cloud hanging over Daniel’s head, though, that could change everything. His mother-in-law who still lives in Denver, wants them to come back to Denver. She wants the girls to attend a fancy boarding school. Daniel, of course, wants none of it. So Evelyn, the mother-in-law, decides to take things into her own hands and files for custody. This woman had my heart beating out of my chest. I understood the reasons WHY she was behaving the way she was, but I still couldn’t believe how far she was willing to take things. And how much she hurt people in the process. This was such a sweet story. And, as I said, the girls just stole the show. I thought the first 75% of the book was really good. But then, wham, that last 25% took it over the top. And I just loved the ending and the epilogue. I admit I usually like my books with a bit more steam and the sexy times in this were a little bit more of a ‘fade to black’ type. But the story itself was just so wonderful. The characters all stole my heart.

Wonderful story, beautifully written with super characters.. Daniel and Hayley were destined to be together... They meet in Montana at a wedding.. Daniel is a local vet and a widower with small twin daughters... Hayley is a vet from Boston with a small animal practice.. Instant attraction but both do everything they can to fight it.. The story is both heartwarming and sad but a lovely HEA.. Highly recommend...

4 - "Come back for Christmas... Come back." Stars! Maggie McGinnis gave me the perfect book to end 2014 with. A Cowboy's Christmas Promise is an absolutely adorable story, that spans months and shows real depth and development with its characters and story.  "I'm just here for a cowboy fling." Hayley has returned to Carefree, Montana for her best friend Kyla's wedding (Book one, Accidental Cowgirl), staying at Whisper Creek Ranch again, it doesn't take her long to shake off the hustle and bustle of Boston and settle back into ranch life, although she doesn't figure hot local Veterinarian, Daniel into the mix, but hey a little holiday fun can't hurt can it... "I'm not a long-term bet. I'm short, not-so-sweet, and outta here before you say good morning." I loved Hayley, a total commitment-phobe to her own eyes, but her words and actions as the story progresses show the reader that although she believes she is one thing, she could definitely step into another role without too much trouble. Daniel, was hot, sweet and a cowboy... Add into that a single father with two absolutely adorable twins and I fell for this book rope, saddle and spurs! "Embrace whatever happens and ride the wave." If you haven't read a book by this author before I cannot recommend her work highly enough, Maggie McGinnis offers a refreshing and engaging writing style. You feel involved in the story, and you can help but fall in love with the characters you are reading about. I just hope we don't have to wait too long for the next book in this series, although if I am honest, I would happily read whatever Ms. McGinnis releases next. What is it about Cowboys? Is it the boots, the stetson, that rolling walk from too long spent on a horse? Or is it just something about the type of man who battles Mother Nature on a daily basis and manages to keep a 1/2 ton of animal in control with just his hands? I don't know, but I do appreciate them. And so did our girl Hayley in this book.  I am kind of wishing that I had read Accidental Cowgirl before this book, since it sounds like there is a heck of a funny back story to her and her friends visiting Montana.  But it wasn't anything that spoiled this story. Hayley is back in Montana for the wedding of her best friend Kyla. She doesn't believe in love, lasting relationships or dating men with children. Of course, she hadn't met Daniel and his two adorable 7 year old daughters yet. Gracie and Bryn were adorable and were so easy to fall for. I liked that Hayley and Daniel were able to share a connection through their veterinary practices. This story spans a period of about 6 months from the time they meet until the big climax.  There is a sweet Epilogue taking place months later nicely wraps everything up and leaves us with a sense of closure and HEA of the characters. There were several scenes in the book that had me reaching for a kleenex, sad tears and happy tears. There was one scene that had me teared up while giggling. This was quite the emotional roller-coaster ride, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I gave this story 4 stars.

The first time I saw the cover of A Cowboy's Christmas Promise, I wanted to read the story, because it was just so full of joy, love, and delight! And the story surely delivers what the cover promises! It is a tale of cowboy charm, idyllic Montana living, humor, wonder of the wild, friends, and romance. The dialog is light, fun, and witty. The character's feels like your lifelong friends, the families are tight, pulling together, and devoted. The romance between Hayley and Daniel is beautiful. What a wonder to watch them fall in love, getting to know each other, learning about each other, carrying on over the time through the distance. Even though the story is 'clean', you can feel the passion, attraction between them. There are a number of swoon worthy scenes in the book, that will stay with you, and make you smile long after. But you also tear up with the deep sorrow of the loss, and of the struggles to move on with life. Daniel's girls are blissfully adorable, and how the little family unit forms, almost instantly, like they were meant to be together, is captivating. The battle with the mother-in-law, Haley's sisters missing, trials with their careers and stress, all bring deeper layers to the story, just making it more enthralling. Truly a charming tale, yes, full of joy and love, life and heart ~ Five spoons!

If I could mark this as more than 5 stars I would. This book grabs you from the beginning-it's warm, funny, sexy-just a fabulous story from beginning to end.  Daniel is a vet in Montana, trying to raise two young girls on his own. Hayley is a vet in Boston, taking care of fancy cats and dogs for the show set people. She visits her friend in Montana, who happens to use Daniel as their vet for their ranch. Add in his two adorable girls, his mother-in-law(who you want to strangle for her interference) and you have a wonderful romance that floats along until the end. A feel good story that makes you yearn for more stories from this author.

I loved this 2nd book in the Whiskey Creek series. This time it is Hayley's turn. Heading to the ranch for her friends wedding she meets big animal vet Daniel. Take Daniel's 7 yr old twins and add a Christmas bet and you get all the makings of a great holiday story. While Daniel and Hayley have what seem like overwhelming odds to get over, they seem to meet each one with humor. Maggie McGinnis does great with hitting all the right emotions and knowing exactly what to say at the right time. Her storytelling is a fresh new face in the contemporary romance genre. Look forward to more Whiskey Creek stories

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review The goodness of this book just flows into you! Hayley, a small animal vet in Boston, has never had a relationship last longer than 13 weeks, fears love and commitment. Daniel, a large animal vet in Montana, is a widower with twin daughters, has lost the love of his life and doesn't think it comes along twice. Yet it only takes a summer wedding in Montana, four months of long distance communication & Christmas in Montana for them to realize their feelings. If and do they pursue a relationship seems the hardest to determine...
