Discover Cecy Robson’s sensational Weird Girls series—or return to where the magic first began—with this eBook original prequel novella about four sisters coming to grips with their unique supernatural powers.
Celia Wird shouldn’t possess the ability to transform into a tigress. Her three sisters should never be able to burst into flames, heal wounds, or transform common objects into deadly weapons. And yet they do.
Before they were born, the Wird Sisters were cursed by a spell that was intended to destroy them, not endow them with extraordinary powers. The sisters’ magic is untamed and explosive at best, and time is running out for them to take command.
Vampires have targeted Celia’s sweet, tragically human ex-boyfriend Danny. The sisters rush to his aid, but in order to take down the vamps, first they must face their dark past and break a spell that’s screwing up their powers. Except this curse wasn’t meant to be broken . . . and the witch who cast it isn’t done toying with them yet.

I’ve yet to start this series, though I do have book one on my shelf. I had the opportunity to read this prequel thanks to Net Galley and at less than 100 pages (a very quick read) I thought it would be a good chance to get a feel for the characters and their story. Normally I'm not overly fond of novellas as they just piss me off as just as I get invested in a story, it’s over. The exception of this is taking a new author (for me) on a quick test drive or as a filler story between series books.
I’m pleased to say this series looks like one I’d thoroughly enjoy. I loved the feel of the Wird sisterhood and finding out a bit about the girls different paranormal talents. They are the type of kick-ass characters that I consistently enjoy and though the story was short, it does appear that there are several different types of paranormals in these stories, something I also find as a plus. There was a lot of action in a very few pages so you get a lot of bang for your buck. If you’ve already read the books in this series, I really think you would enjoy this early history of the girls and if you are new to the series, it will definitely push you to start it.

Get to know The Weird Sisters from the very beginning before they ever honed their powers and had a full understanding of what they really are and what kind or paranormal creatures are out there. They will find out they are not so “weird” after all. Cursed from birth, Celia and her sisters were cursed and ended up with powers they will eventually use fight evil supes and landing them a solid spot in the paranormal world…on the good side of course.

This book is release after the series has already been established up to the third installment, Cursed by Destiny.  But no worries, this is a great introduction to the series.  As Celia and her sisters get to know more of their powers and this new world they are living in, you will learn it with them.  I promise that each book in the series gets better and better.  The characters get stronger, action becomes more intense and the romance becomes more complicated.

If you have already read this series, this is a fun read to get to know the sisters “pre-kick ass” years and definitely pre-Misha and pre-Aric years.  This is actually post-Danny story where everyone is just getting to know what this world is about; making this novella a perfect read to new readers of the series.

I did have to step out of what I already know about this world as some of it yet to exist.  It was hard to get used to a less confident Weird Sisters.  It was hardest to get used to the girls not having their powers in full control.  Not only that their powers have matured, they have also matured emotionally. They really have come a long way from this stage of their lives. I also kept looking for my Aric and Misha whom I desperately need to get more of.

Cecy Robson is one of my favorite authors and I have yet to read a book by her that I didn’t like. All the books in this series are written well with good world building.  It’s full of snarky humor, action packed scenes, strong and sexy heroes and kick ass heroines.  You can also expect a heart break or two.  If you like these things that I mentioned, this series is for you.

A Curse Awakened: A Weird Girls Novella, Cecy Robson
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews
Having just requested the latest book in this series while not having read the earlier ones, this was a really useful book. At 49p for 94 pages its excellent value too. It introduces us to the four sisters and how they gained their unique abilities, while still giving us an exciting and engrossing story. We also get to know the girls personality types too,not just their special abilities, and see how close they are to each other. They’ve learned to rely on themselves, having been scorned and ridiculed by peers at school, and cast out by their parent’s family so have become very close knit as a result. Danny, their long time friend who is still close to Celia, needs their help and they discover in order to rescue his father from the vampires they need to know more about their origins. Luckily Danny is a scholarly type and used to research, so with his help they end up back at their roots – and straight into some real dangers. Throw in Danny’s fathers capture and its a short but fully packed read.
Its a great introduction to this world and I certainly want to read more from this author.
Stars: five, great escape from reality.

LOVED this novella.  The author did a great job setting up the series and giving us this look at the Wird sisters.  As always, the dialogue was really good and the story moved along briskly so there were no boring lags to irritate the reader.

My Thoughts: I love the Wird sisters and seeing their story from before I "knew" them was so super fun.  Filled with all the humor, action, and sisterly awesomeness I love from this series, this short novella does not disappoint.  It is amazing how many little tidbits I picked up as they help Danny with his vampire dilemma.  If you are a fan of this series, this novella is a wonderful gift from the author.  If you have been wanting to try the series, this is a fun place to start without committing to a full novel.
