Overview

Annabel Maitland believes in destiny and following her heart--Trent Sheffield realizes his destiny is to believe in her.

Annabel destroyed her dancing career trying to save her friend Quinn's life. Convinced Quinn's death was no accident, Annabel follows a clue to a North Carolina mountain inn and discovers that everyone who knew Quinn wanted her out of their lives--including the sexy innkeeper whose laid-back charm and megawatt grin take Annabel's breath away. But trusting her heart means ignoring evidence that plants him firmly on the suspect list.

The last person Trent needs working for him is an impossibly long-legged dancer whose sharp wit and silver eyes keep him scrambling. He's falling hard, but Annabel's connection to his ex-fiancée makes him question her motives. When mysterious accidents threaten Annabel's life, they must unearth Quinn's killer before it's too late. But what if Annabel was the target all along?

Reviewed by Audrey Book provided by the publisher for review Review originally posted at Romancing the Book I laughed a lot while reading this book. Not because the story line was stupid but because the characters were pretty great. They were so real with many flaws. It was a very quick and easy read that I would recommend to anyone. Annabel made a promise to a dying Quinn to find out the cause of her death. Annabel takes a job in another state in the hopes of shedding some light on to why Quinn was murdered. She fights hostility from Trent from the minute they meet. He does not trust her or anyone affiliated with Quinn. Trent is a bit broken and has a lot of resentment towards his father in regards to basically forcing him to raise his younger brother Gil. Gil and Trent need to make a profit on the Inn in order to save it. Once Annabel comes to work at the Inn a series of random events keep happening that are not helping the reputation of the Inn at all. Are they related to Quinn’s murder? Annabel suspects both Trent and Gil because they both had motive to kill Quinn. I was completely blown away at who actually was behind the murder of Quinn. Not once while reading the book did I suspect who actually committed the crime. I really liked how the story flowed and how the author kept you guessing and needing to read faster to find out what happened. The love story that happens between Trent and Annabel is unexpected since their initial meeting was very hostile. They both had huge walls that needs to be brought down in order to see that the other was there to help them and love them. Trent fell for Annabel quite hard and he was super sweet about it. They were an unlikely pair- the artist and the starch business man but they each had what the other was lacking. A perfect pair. I will definitely be reading more books by this author. I loved how genuine and down to earth her characters were and how they were not your typical characters.
