Emotional tale that captured my heart Reviewed by: Laci Book provided by: Author Review originally posted at Romancing the Book Review: I enjoyed A Dangerous Expectation, but I felt that there were scenes missing that could have filled in the story a little. It was an emotional tale that captured my heart. I found myself empathizing with Cassandra at first and later empathizing with Gray. They are both broken and in need of healing. This is a story that I think many people can relate to and understand. Cassandra is more than just a shut-in. She’s become an agoraphobic. It’s sad to find out that she feels such anxiety and terror in social situations that she just shuts down inside. She cares so much for her family that she retreats into herself to prevent anyone from getting mad at her and taking it out on her parents and siblings. That she meets her match in Gray is fantastic since he has his own personal demons to fight. He is also suffering but for a totally different reason, but he sees that she’s broken and immediately makes the decision to help her, not knowing that in the end, he’ll be helping himself as well. He comes to love her for herself and not for who she is or who she is related to. The couple of scenes that “fade to black”, as I like to call it, are most likely meant to keep within the blush romance standards, but I feel like there could have been just a little more fill or explanation before it just ends and then when we flip the page, a whole new day starts. It made it feel a bit incomplete, like I was wanting more. It didn’t have to break any of the rules of a blush romance, but the way it sharply ended made me flip back to see if I missed something. There were only two of those scenes that I got confused over, so it isn’t enough to detract from the tone of the book. Overall, though, it was a good book and I enjoyed it. I give credit to the author for writing the heroine as an agoraphobic. I don’t remember reading a heroine like that before.

Another lovely novella in the Gentlemen Next Door series, A Dangerous Expectation was a sweet read. I really liked this light, quick novella, and I really enjoyed it. Cassandra was a great heroine. She was extremely smart and didn't always say the most appropriate thing, which made her self-conscious in society. But, as the book went on, she became more confident and proved herself as a capable character. Gray was very sweet, but I didn't get a lot from his character, But, I still liked him as well. The romance was lovely. I liked how Cassandra and Gray helped each other break free of the restrictions they put on themselves. They might have to act in front of society, but they didn't have to act in front of each other. The plot moved quickly and I was kept interested the entire way through. I enjoyed the story and the ending was great. A Dangerous Expectation was a sweet, light novella and I enjoyed reading it. Romance lovers, this is a book you'll want to check out if you're in the mood for a quick, enjoyable read. *I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Another great installment in the Gentleman Series! I love the premise of this story! The two main characters end up in a precarious situation and find out that they have more in common that they could ever have imagined! I loved learning more about Cassandra, the sister of Chastity from the previous book in The Gentleman Series. The characters were unique and the story was as well! I loved how things turned out in the end and overall enjoyed every minute of this regency novella! Another great story by Cecilia Gray! I received this book for free and this is my honest review.

This is the first book i have read by cecilia gray and will not be the last. The story was amusing, unexpected and heartfelt. In a few short sentences and a few pages the author was able to portray the time period and people of most classes . We learned about to care about this newly married couple as they learned to care about each other.the ending was very satisfying.reviewed Florence B.

If you haven't noticed by now, I love Cecilia Gray and her work. A Dangerous Expectation is different from its prequels. Partially because things happened very fast in this story. It was strange to me, but it seems very realistic for that time period. It was the perfect beginning for this couple, even if they didn't think so. Right off the bat, I loved Cassandra Drummond. She's forward, yet innocent and sweet. She reminds me a lot of myself. She's awkward with men and always says what's on her mind. Cassie, as she is affectionately referred to by her sister, hates overwhelming social situations and prefers the quiet countryside. This, too, is much like myself. She's brilliant, scientific and a very curious being. Much different from most heroines that you read about in historical pieces. It was very interesting to read about her. Grey Abernathy is a great love for Cassie. He understands her and loves her because of her quirks, not in spite of them. He's so sweet and he stands up for what he believes is right. Grey's a great guy, with the best interests at heart. And he's so fiercely protective of Cassandra that it makes me swoon. The way that Cecilia introduces Grey Abernathy had me giddy and swooning. The picture in my head made me grin like a school girl. Ms. Gray is very good at painting scenes that they are easily pictured in your imagination. That's another thing I love about her stories. I love how the bond between Cassandra and her sister, Chastity is shown more in this story. They think of each other's needs before their own and anyone else's. It's so sweet and endearing. It makes me wish that I had a relationship like that. Best lines ever: "I suppose that now my home is wherever you are." "One day," he said, "I will be worthy of you." As stated in my previous review, I love when authors include characters from past books in their present ones. So the fact that there were scene with Chastity and Lucas made me very happy. (Plus Franny and Phillip are mentioned in the story. Not as much as I wanted, but they were still there! Woo-hoo!)

A regency novella with a modern feel I enjoyed every book from the Gentlemen Next Door serie but I think this one is my favourite. Cassandra is a woman full of potential. She has her own mind. Even if she’s forced to behave a certain way because of society, she is still herself. This book takes place in the regency period (which I adore) but because of the personality of Cassandra and Gray it feels a bit modern. And I love it. Again, a quick read so enjoyable. I read it in one evening. I couldn’t put it down.

Cecilia Gray has produced another great sweet Regency in her Gentleman Next Door series of novellas. Although the hero and heroine meet as strangers, they find that they share the same interests and have similar values, even though neither expects to find a partner that they can fall in love with. I loved that the wealthy heroine was mechanically inclined and interested in engineering and that the hero was a professional houseguest and a man of limited means despite his noble birth; it made for an interesting story that ended way, way too soon. I can't wait to see more from this author.
