I read the first six or seven books in this series and this one proved my favorite. It's a good read.

It had a plot unlike the second book that was two people running around. I thought the action was fine. The only mistake was one of the Demons goes back to LA, but it really doesn't explain how he could get back to Orcus. The main character has a lot of growth. She's always been a fighter and even when she wants to give up, she can't. Even when she's raped, she can get over it because she is a fighter with a very violent upbringing. The part where she meets up with her baby's daddy is somewhat disjointed.

I've Never Read Any Of The Other Books In This Series But After Hearing Other People Describe It As The Best One, I Doubt I Ever Will.
This Isn't A Book I Would Pick For Myself, If Someone Hadn't Bought It For Me I Never Would Have Even Glanced At It. This Is Definitely One Of Those Cases Where You SHOULD Judge The Book By It's Cover.
The Writing Was Terrible. I've Never Heard Of The Author But After Reading This Piece Of Trash I Will Never Read Anything Else She's Written.
I Was Shocked To See That There Were People That Actually LIKED This Book.
The Story Was So Terribly Written, And The Characters Completely Unlikable (I Couldn't Help But Hate Claudia, She Didn't Strike Me As Tough Or Strong At All. Just Weak And Stupid). Maybe It's Just Because I Haven't Read Any Of The Other Books, But Half The Time It's Just Like, Uh, What The Devil!?.
I Couldn't Believe The Whole Thing With Lath, It Was Completely Awful.
I Know That Was The Point But Still, Jeez.

An excellent read, undoubtably the best in the Crimson City series. Highly recommended even if you haven't read the rest of the series...Very good.

I started reading this series and each one is so distinctive yet you can see the world that is being built. I thought this one really caught my attention the best. The sex was integral to the plot as well as steamy and hot. Plus the strong leading female character seemed real, not just a 'heroine'.

Claudia Donovan is a tough cop in Crimson City, but she has a vulnerable spot, her daughter, Holly. When the girl is captured by demons, Claudia will break her own rules to join forces with a vampire, Korzha, to get her back from the demon realm. A secret Claudia never imagined knocks Claudia for a loop, and the young mother is forced to do things she finds horrible to save Holly, but do them she does. As an added complication, she finds herself caught in a nightmarish 'love' triangle with a demon who loves and hates her as well as Korzha, whom she does love. ............... This is an unusual story. Claudia's rape is portrayed in a very disturbing manner. How she falls for Korzha is never clearly defined, and there is a large gap in the background information. If you read this book, be warned, it is a very dark story, invoking a subtle form of horror.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. The demons of Orcus believe they have found the elixir to enable them to penetrate the barrier between their underground abyss and the human city above. They need to obtain the blood of Crimson City police officer Claudia Donovan. To lure Claudia into their realm is relatively easy the demons arrange the kidnapping of Claudia¿s daughter Holly so that she can serve as bait............... Claudia soon realizes that she will probably die in Orcus and has little chance of rescuing her daughter who probably is dead. Her only hope to escape rests with the dangerously appealing vampire Tiberiu Korzha, who is in the underground on a quest. Surprisingly he agrees to help the single mother at the same time that Lath the demon claims Claudia as his life mate................ The Crimson City saga has produced three previous great tales with each enhancing the realm set forth from the previous tale. However, the fourth novel, A DARKER CRIMSON, is the best jewel yet as the problems between humans, demons, vampires, and werewolves, etc. explodes into the open. The key cast members insure vampires, demons, and those humans living along side these paranormal creatures seem real so that fans receive a terrific thriller that sets quite a high bar for the next story to achieve.............
