Editorial Reviews

David Bedford
When Judith Kristen decided as a 15 year old girl that she was going to see The Beatles she skipped school to see the group arrive at JFK airport, and then attempted to sneak into their press conference - with some success. The reason was her obsession: George Harrison.

Once she had set eyes on that face, nothing, and no one, was going to stop her from meeting her idol. What follows is a fantastic journey through a teenager's eyes as she follows her dream boy around her native Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey, and even manages to see the Beatles performance at the historic Shea Stadium concert on 15th August 1965.

The story is incredible; the adventure is incredible; her patience and perseverance defy belief at times to make for a book that, especially for second generation fans like me, finally gives a taste of what Beatlemania was really like.

For all the lengthy, fact-filled historically accurate Beatles books out there - like mine! - this is a must for those who want a first-hand taste of what it was really like to be a Beatles fan while the group were at their peak. Judith set out to meet George Harrison, and what happened was pretty amazing to enable the two of them to finally set eyes on each other - but I won't spoil that for you.

Buy the book, and smile as you read it! I did.

Judith's dream becomes reality in the Beatle-magic period of 1964!

Realistically crazy! Judy tells us about the way she dealt with her severe case of Beatlemania in 1964 - by setting up continuous methods and strategies to score a date with her favorite Beatle...George Harrison. Read how high school-aged Judy and her friend Shelly manage to make it to 4 Beatles concerts, stake out their hotels and reek havoc with their parents and even the police force for the sake of their goal. Judy's tenacity and clever command of how to make mischief work in her favor, gains her an advantage over the minions of other screaming girl fans that are also at the shows or outside the hotels and fighting for even a glimpse of their new heroes. Historically accurate, in the way the facts blend in with Judy's experiences, the story progresses from the adolescent perspective of the writer herself. I thought I would need to be a female to enjoy it, but anyone who appreciates the impact the Beatles had on American youth after that historical Feb. 9, 1964 Ed Sullivan Show broadcast, will get a kick out of this and root for Judy every step of the way. It is exciting, entertaining and thoroughly satisfying to see how she outwitted the authorities, worked her way into the right place at the perfect time and finally pulls off her ultimate ambition. Exciting to the point where you won't want to put it down till you get to the very end!

A book to take you back to Beatlemania

I bought this book a week ago at Fest for Beatles and stayed up reading it all night. It took me two hours to read because it was so amazing. I could not put it down even when there was a jam session going on a few floors below my hotel room. It's one of the best books I've read on the Beatles and i've read a lot of them. Judith really takes you back to 1964 and makes you feel as though you are there with her through every stunt she pulls, all in the hopes of meeting the one and only George Harrison. While reading this book. you go back in time and for those who were unfortunate enough to be born decades late, it let's you get a feel for what Beatlemania was like and what it was like for The Beatles to come to America.

Written by a fan for other fans!

"The secret to this book's fabulous success is that it is written by a fan for other fans. Now that sounds simplistic, and most great ideas are, but the author's writing ability really takes you back to that time and let's you experience Beatlemania as a young teenager again. Very exciting! For those that didn't get to experience it, this is the next best thing to being there." - David Holmes

Beatlemania, with all the bells and whistles!

This book is a runaway diary. Actually, it's almost like reading a film, not a script, it's really like seeing a film in front of your eyes - in print! It's amazing.
If you weren't around to experience Beatlemania as a fan first hand back in 1964, this is the next best thing to being there. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!

    NOW I Remember When

Thanks to Judith Kristen's book I have taken a trip back in time that I thought was just a blurred memory - with only Youtube videos to take me there. A Date with a Beatle is the way it was. The way we were. The excitement, the anticipation, that music, THOSE MOPTOPS! This is a fan's book. In one sitting I read this and laughed and reminisced, and wished so much that today's kids could feel that joy. No Bieber Fever is EVER going to top The Beatles and here's the book that takes you back and shows you why.

One of the best Beatles books I've ever read - and it's all true! :)

I bought this book a week ago and read it in under two hours. Within reading the first paragraph, I was hooked. As a second generation fan, it really took me back to the time of Beatlemania, making me wish even more that I could have been there. Judith's journey is real and it's fun. It's a very heartwarming story that will make you laugh along the way and fall even more in love with the Fab Four! I recommend this to any fan of John, Paul, George and Ringo whether you were there, or just wish you had been.

A must read for ALL Beatles Fans!

I met Judith at Beatles Fest in Chicago on Friday. Bought the book that night, and read it ALL that night. I simply couldn't put it down. One of the greatest books I have ever read. I have read countless Beatles related books, and they all talk about Beatlemania, and the people behind it. This book is the ONLY one out of the many, that has made me feel like I was actually there with Judith, through it all. I recommend this book to any and all Beatles Fans. It will bring back memories to those who were there for Beatlemania, and will make those who weren't, wish they were there even more. A well written, fun, and quick read. :)

    Fantastic book!

Within the first 3 minutes of having this book in my possession, I read the first four chapters. I am not a reader but this book grabbed my attention and held onto it until I finished reading it four hours later. Judith wrote with passion about her quest to & account of finally meeting her favorite Beatle. As a fellow Beatles fan, I understand and appreciate her story as I was only a child when they invaded America but grew up knowing who they were and obsessing about them in my late childhood and pre-teen years. If I were to recommend one book to read in your lifetime, it would be A Date With a Beatle. ;-)

THIS BOOK IS A BABY-BOOMERS AND BEATLE LOVERS DELIGHT!!!!

I met Judy at The Fest for Beatles in March and could not believe how down to earth and generous she was with her time. She seems to be able to talk about any topic with knowledge and experience. I obtained her book and read it in one sitting that same day. At such a young age she displayed such tenacity and quest for goal-----to meet George. Since I am from the same era and from Philly, I soooo felt connected to her. Judy's sense of humor brought her book ALIVE and made me want to share this book with everyone I know. This book is not only for Beatle lovers but for anyone who wants to laugh at human nature and ourselves. Thanks Judy for being you.

Take this book to the beach!

I just loved this book. It took me back to simpler times. I was just a kid when the Beatles came to the USA and this book let me feel how it was for all the teenage girls at that time. Judith Kristen knows how to tell a story. Enjoy this book and then pass it on to your friends or daughters.

A MUST READ! A FABULOUS TRIP BACK IN TIME TO THE BEATLES ERA, THROUGH THE EYES OF A FEISTY, DETERMINED TEENAGER. A TIME WHEN WE KNEW WE COULD ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING!

"A Date with a Beatle" will take you back in time to the Beatles invasion of the USA; a time when every teenage girl fell in love with one or all of the Fab Four. You don't even have to be a Beatle fan to truly enjoy the adventures of one determined teenage girl, on a mission to meet the Beatles, in particularly, George Harrison. I read it in one sitting, and found myself lost in time, remembering my own dreams during that crazy and yet so innocent era. Buy it, read it, love it, share it, and read it again. Another great effort by a truly talented writer.

Beatles, the 60's, all in a rollicking rock 'n' roll read

I thoroughly enjoyed this read, which is through the eyes and voice of a teen who was a Beatle's fan like no other in the 60's. It brings you back to an era as if you were tagging along, and it makes you wish you had been! I can only imagine the fun a book discussion group could have with sharing a part that made the reader smile and the images of the times it would bring to mind and make someone want to share themself. It's about an era that shaped so many and so much in the music industry. It made me wonder what teens today would think about the differences and probable similarities, too, about being star-struck for any generation.

Review of "A Date with a Beatle"

"A Date with a Beatle" is a fast and fun read, detailing the incredible true story of 16-year-old Judy, a Beatlemaniac whose goal it is to meet her idol, Beatle George Harrison. Along with her friend, Shelly, Judy explores ways to follow the Beatles while they are in the United States in 1964. Her perseverance finally pays off when, oddly enough, George himself actually rescues her from serious trouble, following her quest to encounter him. From cover to cover, this book illustrates the power of young love, as we, the readers, delight in a rollicking, riveting sequence of events orchestrated by Judy herself. So complete is her devotion to the Beatles, Judy actually takes risks that could land her in jail. As I write this, I have a smile on my face and a hooray in my heart for this lighthearted, amusing and capitvating account of a teen-age adventure. "A Date with a Beatle" could easily become a very highly rated, entertaining movie!
