Paul Kemp writes maginificent stories, and his characters are always emotionally invested in their world. Throughout the tale, we see Egil and Nix engaging in their usual banter, but at many points throughout we see what hides beneath it all, and are treated to people who are incredibly invested in doing good because it's the good thing to do, and not just because of a reward. Seeing them get dark, and knowing themselves as well as they do before they save the day turns the story's ending into a real reward for the characters, and is the perfect cap for the adventure we just had. I'm eagerly awaiting the next!

I raced through "The Hammer and the Blade" (the first Egil and Nix book) and was thrilled to find that there was a sequel to it. I raced through this one just as quickly. These are great books. The banter and action are so very well written and the characters never disappoint. I am looking forward to reading more Egil and Nix books. I don't know that I'll ever get enough of these two characters. They're flawed and perfectly so, which makes them even more interesting. Great job, Mr. Kemp!

The first book was made my all time best reads. I have been lucky that I have found very few books that I have disliked or was unable to finish. This is the book I have been searching for years. As a gamer, I can picture the situations. It's realistic, as far as fantasy can be realistic, and a pure joy to read and indulge in. I can not wait for the next in the series.

I could not wait to read this book and was not disappointed. The action and dialogue between the two protagonists is unrivaled. SUPER FUN read! Great character development and fabulous even if you have not read the first in the series, The Hammer and the Blade (although you should). Hopefully the upcoming Godborn will get me through until the next adventure from Egil & Nix. Thank you, Mr. Kemp, for the fine reads! Write faster! ;)
