“Perhaps you came here to find the story of the woman your grandmother did not have an opportunity to become, or to finish the story of the one who interrupted her life so suddenly.” These intriguing words send young journalist Addie McRae on a quest to uncover the truth behind a decades-old unsolved murder and find a killer who is still living, and killing, in Sparrow Falls, North Carolina. A list of suspects grows as Addie meets the hilariously funny and eccentric townsfolk, descendants of Highland Scots who settled the small town centuries before. She is befriended by spunky senior citizen Tilda MacArdan and the mysteriously angelic Morwenna Goss, known as the story keeper of the old Scottish burying ground. A gossiping trio of elderly women may remember the first murder accurately, or merely be keeping ugly rumors alive. Did the artist who painted the portrait of the beautiful murder victim love her – or kill her? The handsome grandson of the prime suspect could be Addie’s new beau, or her most dangerous foe. As the cold case heats up, Addie learns that even in a quiet town things – and people - are never quite as they appear.

    Refreshing treat!

Entertaining mystery, great character descriptions, in a sweet little southern town. Content: No swearing, no sex, no gore. A fun, well written, delightful read. I snapped up the rest in the series and can't wait to enjoy them. What a great find!

Can't read this totally underlined text

Would have liked reading what seemed to be an interesting story but it came up on my Nook with the text completely underlined... shame that B&N does not check more thoroughly what they sell. Buyer beware!
