Overview

This is the first edition of a book series about Joey Snead as he experiences life from age eleven through high school graduation. This innovative series is designed to use basketball as a means of encouraging young people to enjoy and employ the gift of reading and writing.

Wayne Slappy is a poet, playwright, screenwriter, author, producer and basketball skills trainer. The game of basketball was created in 1891 and is one of the few major sports invented in America. As its popularity has reached global dimensions, basketball has become one of the world’s most beloved sports. A FEW STEPS FORWARD is the first installment in that series about a fictional character named Josef Tai Oliver Snead, an 11 year-old aspiring basketball player growing up in Newark, New Jersey.

“Slap”, as his friends call him, intends to invite readers to respond via a series of writing contests. Those winners and participants will be invited to attend overnight basketball camps and skills clinics with special lectures reading and writing sessions offered by past and present NBA players and coaches. It is hoped that a variety of sponsors and philanthropists will join our efforts to provide lesson plans, computers, web-books, audio books, seminars, webinars, grants and scholarships for avid readers as well. A variety of intra-class as well as interscholastic competitions may be instituted to accompany book tours for future releases and general literacy campaigns that will use basketball as metaphor to fulfill Wayne’s genuine desire to inspire greater readership and nurture the writers of tomorrow.

Basketball enthusiasts should be on the lookout for Wayne's basketball skills training manual, entitled, "500 WAYS TO SCORE". Whether you are coach, skills trainer, weekend warrior, fan, parent or ambitious youngster aspiring to earn a collegiate scholarship or play professionally, "500 WAYS TO SCORE" is a must read. One's skill set and basketball IQ will improve tenfold, no matter what level you or someone you know wishes to compete.
