Publishers Weekly - Publishers Weekly
In Sala's heavy-handed novel about the consequences of sin, secrets, and selfishness, heroine Poppy Sadler flounders after learning that both her parents have died. In the first four pages of the book, Poppy's mother succumbs to cancer and her father, Jessup, is murdered. The 20-year-old waitress feels alone in her harsh, hardscrabble mining hometown on the wrong side of the tracks in West Virginia. She can't even get to work since the family's only car is now a crime scene that has been impounded by the police. What Poppy doesn't know is that, thanks to the unexpected mercy of mine owner Justin Caulfield, things may not be as bad as they seem. But life is definitely going to get a whole lot more complicated because Caulfield is harboring a guilty secret. Sala's characters are well realized and vivid, but the novel is tainted by the author's cloying moralism.

I do not write reviews, but it would be an injustice if i did not rave about this book! First of all, this book is not a romance. It is a fiction piece with all the elements: mystery, romance, human emotion ect. It is a story about faith, love, forgiveness, strength, and hope. It is not a typical romance, but yet it leaves you with a happy feeling that lingers after you finish!

I don't think you can read a better writer.. Sharon Sala's books are all wonderful, this one is simply great. The story line keeps you reading, and the characters have you experiencing, and living their lives with them. Wonderful heartful story.

I have read all of the books Sharon Sala has written and this is by far one of my favorites. This book made me laugh and made me cry. I did not want it to end. It had my attention from the very first sentence.

Sharon Sala is one of my favorite authors for several reasons, but the main one is that she weaves such a great story and adds enough twists and turns that you don't figure out what's really going on till the final end of the story. This book is no exception and i'm so glad she decided to publish it :) One i started reading the story, i could not stop till i was finished. There were so many twists and turns that i thought i had figured out and then i found that they weren't really the way it was at all so i just kept reading and then was hungry for more when it was finally over. Her characters are so real that you feel you know them :) they could be the people next door or down the street, or even some of your friends and relatives :) Thanks, Sharon, for once again writing a great book that i will want to read over and over again over the years :)

Loooove Ms. Sala's books but heroine in story could have less contrary toward birth father, and kinder to his sick daughter. After all, heroine's brother did'nt blame Poppy for anything that happened.
