I am a junior at Holt High School and loved this book so much. As a teenager who really doesn't like to read at all, the Book A Fine and Pleasant Misery by Patrick F. McManus is a book that doesn't really follow a true story line that you must follow. It is made up of stories that give you as the reader a sense of some cautionary tales of the outdoor life. I recommend this book to people that are just like me that don't really like to read books. You can skip around from chapter to chapter and still understand the book because each of them has their own beginning and ending. The Book begins with the story of how 4 teenagers went on a hiking trip up into the Idaho Rockies to reach this little lake. As they are hiking the snow begins to fall and the 4 boys were not very prepared for it. It goes on to just continue and give some basic pointers on how you should approach this type of situation. The book also goes over some of the experiences Patrick McManus had and also about something's that were a part of his adventures like his dog. The second story in the book is all about his dog and all the good times he had with him.

Anything by Pat McManus is more than worth the time to read. His writing hits the real truths about hunting, fishing and camping in all it's hilarity, humor, agony and all around fun. This IS the way it really is. I'd read the phone book if Pat wrote it.
I've spent most of my life living his rendition of real outdoor life. God Bless him and please, keep writing.

My teacher read this to us in class, and we all fell over laughing. I can't wait to buy his book.
