Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 1-3-- Another in the continuing series of simple nature books meant to introduce young children to a specific subject and help them identify distinctive traits within that category. This book defines carnivores as an order of mammals and discusses specific animal groups: cats, dogs, bears, weasels, and raccoons. Information on the panda and the hyena is also included. Physical differences between and within these groups are briefly described, and readers are asked to observe specific animals in the detailed black-and-white pencil drawings. No mention is made of what the animals eat or where they live. An index is appended, but the 32-page text is unpaged. A cursory introduction to carnivores and their characteristics. --Margaret C. Howell, West Springfield Elementary School, VA
