Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Noodles is enjoying a lovely fall day. He chases leaves, but notices that his toy teddy bear is missing. Being a clever little dog, Noodles follows the tricks until he finds a hole in the ground. Fearlessly, he enters the hole and sure enough there is his teddy alongside a small fox. The fox apologizes and Noodles heads off to play, but then he remembers how sad the fox looked. Off he goes to see if he can engage the fox in a game of hide-and-seek. They run and play, eat apples that have fallen from a tree, and jump into a pile of leaves. Fall certainly is one of the best seasons of the year and it certainly is more fun to play with a friend. The text ends with six picture clues and a note on the inside cover for adults who are working with children. There is a description of the "Scholastic Reader" series and a reference to the web site to give advice for sharing the reading experience with a child. This early reader is identified as one with picture clues or may also be considered a rebus reader. The text has been designated as a Level 1 beginning reader, for grade levels Pre-K to 1, and Guided Reading Level H. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
