The night air was crisp, even at the 72 degrees that enveloped the 2000 fans that sat and watched as the Westland Dragons took on the Dallas Sting for the U-21 Women's National Soccer Championship at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Field. Both teams had battled to a 1-1 tie over 90 minutes, and now both were coming to the end of the second 15-minute overtime tied at one goal apiece. Overview

A shoot-out was inevitable, and how ironic I thought. This is how it all began for this team; this is what set this team apart from others when they were only 12 years old back in the fall of 1994. The whistle of the center official sounded and I knew what lie in store for our girls. They had been here before; they had all been through so much. Ashleigh, Jessie and Kendall were all on the bench due to injuries, and our back-up keeper, Christa, was asking me why she had to do this. I knew this time was different, this time it was for so much more than a trophy or a title. This time it was for all the games, all the seasons and all the players that had come and gone. This was going to be a game of a lifetime - this was their game for all seasons. The Lady Dragons were born on July 7th, 1994, and I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a warm night, and the heat of the day had parched the already dry field to a golden brown, with spots of green, as 45 young 12 year old girls showed up in mass to a tryout for the "New Premier team" about to be formed. Forty-five young girls all with the same dream: to someday play Women's Major League Soccer. But now, it was a much smaller dream that lie ahead, they were all very sure that they would be the one, the one out of 45 that would catch the Coach's eye and be chosen to be part of the 18 player roster.

    A Game For All Seasons

Does anyone else feel about this book the way I do. It was like finding a gold nugget when I was at my local Barnes and Noble store and was looking for something new in the sports section. Tucked away, almost behind another book was this wonderful story. The cover captures your eye immediately, and once you get into it the book is hard to put down. I love to read, but my 13 year old daughter does not. She picked up last week and read it within a day. Great game play, but more importantly, a great story. This unknown author is well know in his field of coaching and has some real success. What a gem, let's get this secret out and on the streets. A very entertaining book. Well done.

    Light, Camera, Action

I wrote this before but obviously B&N did not keep it on their website. This book would be a great movie. HBO, Showtime, ESPN, Disney , whomever, pick this book up and tell me you can't see this. What a wonderfull story, very well written and the game play is obviously real. C'mon all you producers and producer wanna be's take a shot with this book, I gaurantee it will be the next great sports movie.

    A Game For All Seasons

It's funny, sad, true to the great sport of soccer and you will want to pass it on to a friend or your child. I hate to read and I read it in 3 hours on a boring bus ride to a game. I played HS for Coach Thompson and I never knew the tough old guy could write. I hated hills, hated the Z drill but I was in the best shape of my life. Those of us that know Coach, know that Harry is Coach Thompson. As you would say Coach. 'Be perfect and except excellence.' This book is excellent.

    Harry For Head Coach

Harry Monahan should be considered Head Coach for the Mens USA Natioanl Team. He could motivate a grasshopper to take on a snake. I just watched the USA loose yet again. We need Harry to come and coach our boys. He would bring the World Cup to the USA then Howie Thompson could write another wonderful story. Maybe he could call it 'Our Cup Runnith Over. Great book, you have inspired me to watch the entire World Cup until brazil wins again.
