Overview

Power, privilege, and the rigid rules of class leave two hearts yearning for connection in the sizzling new Society of Gentlemen novel from K. J. Charles.

Among his eccentric though strictly principled group of friends, Lord Richard Vane is the confidant on whom everyone depends for advice, moral rectitude, and discreet assistance. Yet when Richard has a problem, he turns to his valet, a fixer of unparalleled genius—and the object of Richard’s deepest desires. If there is one rule a gentleman must follow, it is never to dally with servants. But when David is close enough to touch, the rules of class collide with the basest sort of animal instinct: overpowering lust.

For David Cyprian, burglary and blackmail are as much in a day’s work as bootblacking—anything for the man he’s devoted to. But the one thing he wants for himself is the one thing Richard refuses to give: his heart. With the tension between them growing to be unbearable, David’s seemingly incorruptible master has left him no choice. Putting his finely honed skills of seduction and manipulation to good use, he will convince Richard to forget all about his well-meaning objections and give in to sweet, sinful temptation.

First, I have to say, you absolutely have to read in order or you will be hopeless lost. I have and even with months in between, it took a few pages to remember who was who. The one thing I love about this author is that they are so detailed with the levels and layers in the writing you really have to pay attention or you will not understand and therefore not appreciate it. This one is finally Richards story, although once again all the previous characters make an appearance. Richard brother, wife (almost) is harping on him to marry) Richard is trying to save people from the hang man’s nose, And the man behind it all is David. The pillar that keeps Richard from falling. Okay, so because we’ve had David and Richard through the whole series we didn’t have to build a relationship. However, we did have to change dynamic and for Richard to change was entertaining to watch. Also to watch the resolution of sorts for Silas was great, hang… not hang… You did feel bad for David, to have him watch Richard have affairs throughput the other books and then come home as it were to him. But finally David gets his man.

While the absolutely superb book number three in the even more so fabulous M/M trilogy "Society of Gentlemen" can be read as a stand-alone, I guarantee you that you would WANT to know the stories about all the characters because... ... they are just that intriguing and fascinating. Having started with book 2, then 3 then 1 and then started again, I want you to know this much: A Gentleman's position is in a way "lighter" than the previous two, and less "political", yet the internal struggles for the two male protagonists are equally deep, and profoundly problematic. I don't know how K.J. Charles does it but she lets us live with her characters, we experience their stories almost as if we were with them. It's the writing, the style, the prose that intrigued me first, yet it's the tender moments juxtaposed with the sheer hopelessness of the situation that totally gets me. In this third installment of the "Society of Gentlemen", and without giving away anything from the previous books, we finally find out whom Lord Richard Vane so desperately loves and who really rules the Society. And this being a romance novel with a HEA, how David Cyprian in the end can make happen what he so fiercely desires. Rock solid five stars ***** for this conclusion (?) in an excellent trilogy. Can't wait to read more from this amazing author!

This is only my second K.J. Charles book, but it certainly won't be my last. I can't say enough about how impressed I am with her writing, and with this series in particular. She really has beautifully captured the political climate and class system of the day and the impact they have on the masses. Richard and David come from different classes and have very real issues to overcome as a result. The journey that these two characters take throughout this book is truly a beautiful thing to witness. It is poignant and romantic and gut-wrenching and sexy and impassioned and meaningful and absolutely riveting. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a provocative and gripping read. * I was given an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I completed this stunning novel in pretty much one sitting. And have to say that this series Society of Gentlemen, ranks up there with my all time favourites in the genre of HR. KJ Charles and her work came highly recommended from a well respected blogger friend. I had never, previously to that, ever read a m/m romance of any description and what a series to begin with! The historic content is fascinating, meticulously researched and delivered in a way that makes the reader want to learn more. There is so much information in these fabulous novels that I won't go into detail; suffice to say that Ms.Charles had my attention from start to finish in each of the books in this terrific series. Forget that this is a same-sex romance - it's quite simply a beautiful love story. Yes, it's very hot (makes the eyes water) but the writing is intelligent, I loved the characters; their journey to their HEA; the very cleverly accomplished plot and it's dramatic culmination and then the very real moral dilemma faced by the central protagonist. I ADORED A Gentleman's Position, in fact I adored the whole fantastic series and am gutted that it has now reached its climax.

I was given a gifted copy by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Lord Richard Vane is a man of honor and very loyal to his friends. Whenever they have any kind of problem, they go to him for advice. He always relied on David Cyprian who is not only his valet but his confident and the object of his affection. David is the perfect valet, always paying attention to his lord’s smallest wish or need. He would do anything for him. However, not everything is perfect in paradise. There are rules of class that can’t be forgotten; a lord can’t get involved with a servant. Will David be able to think of a way to stay together? The vocabulary is quite unusual –at least for me– and I got lost very often trying to identify the characters because sometimes they are called by their given names and others by the title or surname and it seems that there are more characters than in fact there are. It’s a slow story, but apart from that, the book is quite enjoyable.

This is more of 3 1/2 stars for me. This story is about a nobleman and his valet, their forbidden love for each other, and their journey to overcome obstacles to truly love one another. Lord Richard is well respected and very upstanding. He battles with his feelings for his valet, David, feeling that they can never come to fruition. Lines get crossed, feelings get hurt, and they struggle to be together. I enjoyed David's willpower to stick to his guns and wanted to smack Lord Richard up side his head. The friendships among their acquaintances added a wonderful touch.

I won a copy of this book (as a download from NetGalley) from an online contest. This was a huge bonus for me because I got to read the book early! I love this series (I love anything by this author, basically). I read this the day I downloaded it, then went back to read the whole series again and read it a second time. One of the things I love about KJ Charles's writing is that she doesn't play to expectations. This series is set in the Regency, and while most Regency romances (while admittedly are generally M/F, not M/M) are focused more on the manners and drawing room intrigue, Ms. Charles isn't afraid to venture into some pretty serious political situations--which adds a degree of tension you don't usually find in Regency romances. Likewise, her heroes don't have to be perfect to be imminently compelling. Apparently some readers think Lord Richard (one of the heroes in this book) is a jerk (if you've read A Seditious Affair, you'll know why!), but that's judging him by modern standards and information. Ms. Charles poses some really thought-provoking questions through the characters' attitudes -- what would you think about a D/s relationship if you had no name to give to that kind of power exchange? How would you view a person with dyslexia if you had no idea what it was? Lord Richard and Cyprian have to find their own way in a world in which the social classes rarely intermingled. I loved the way Ms. Charles handled this--and if Lord Richard had to bend a little more than Cyprian? Serves him right for being a jerk. :-)

I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. This is a Romance/ LGBTQIA type book...which I have never read before. I am truly not into this type of story and decided to read it thing it was a regular romance book. But once I had the book and read the story line I felt committed to reading the story line to at least see what it is all about not to mention to meet my review request. I must saw that he was actually better than I thought it would be..there was more story there then I first thought. There was genuine love between Lord Richard Vane and his personal assistant/valet David Cyprian. Richard feels that any sexual move toward David would cause David to think that he is abusing his authority over David. But unknown to each other is that they both feel in love with the other. This story is dealing with how their love came to be and what they overcome to be together.

First off, I LOVED Cyprian! He was by far my favorite character in the whole book. This one was a little slow in some parts but I ended up enjoying it a lot. Cyprian is much more than just a valet to Richard, but Richard has been brought up a certain way to believe that he cannot be with anyone below his station, so he pushes him away. He is also worried that Cyprian will just go along with Richard's wants and needs because he feels as if he won't be able to say no since he's his employer. Richard was frustrating at times because he was really good at putting his foot in his mouth with Cyprian. This was the third book in the series but it can be read as a standalone. With that being said, I am probably going to go back and read the first too because there were some great secondary characters in this one. ** I received a free copy of this title via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. **

This is the third book in the Society of Gentlemen series and I loved it. This can be read as a standalone but I think you will enjoy it a lot more if you read the other two books first. I read books one and two out of order and it didn’t matter but this one is about the leader of the group of men called the Ricardians. There is so much information in the first two books that will make this one more meaningful if you read at least one of them first. (I’d suggest book two if you can only read one of them.) Lord Richard Vane is a member of the aristocracy – there is no way he can associate with a servant – but he wants his valet, David Cyprian, in the worst way. He’s managed to control his desires for years but when fate brings them closer together he finds he can’t resist David – especially when he finds out that David wants him just as much. This book revisits characters from the previous two books and we find the Ricardians in danger of being revealed as sodomites – an accusation that if proved to be true could cost them more than just their place in society. Once again, David Cyprian’s unique talents are called upon to help the Ricardians. The suspense in this story was delicious; I was glued to my ereader from start to finish. I don’t have to words to do this book justice. K. J. Charles writing carries me away to another place where I’m totally immersed in the story she is telling. My heart hurts for Richard and David and I want so badly for them to get their HEA. This story had my emotions all over the place – the best kind of romance there is, in my opinion. Love is love, it doesn’t matter if it’s M/M, M/F or F/F, and KJC has once again written a captivating story. All of the books in The Society of Gentlemen series were so good; I’m truly sorry to see it come to an end. I know KJC is working on a new series and I can’t wait to read it. *****Reviewed for Xtreme-Delusions***** I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
