Not the same old same old, if infidelity upsets you skip this one,
otherwise it's good. I could really sense the grief and the see why the
heroine made the choices she did.

(2.5 stars) The story begins with Clarissa mourning her husband who's at the end stages of terminable cancer and grows to a story of what would you do to save your husbands life and is infidelity there as well? Though the story as an idea is good and could easily be very hot - it didn't quite manage to do it for me and I realized the reason for that were Clarissa's reactions to what happened around her, to her.
Clarissa's character was a contradiction, she was the caring concerned wife when she was at her husband's death bed, and surprisingly spunky and argumentative when with her sister and the master vampire - it left me feeling 'where did that come from'? Which caused me to not be able to be focused and immersed in the story. Hence the low star rating.
The romance wasn't really a romance it was sex with a vamp under certain terms and tender feelings for her husband. It picked up towards the end of the novella and the ending I though was very interesting... a cool end for the story.
All in all it was an okay novella, and had a good amount of sexy action. :)

Ashlynn Monroe has concocted a truly unique take on the vampire theme. This novella packs a punch, and it's obvious the lengths the heroine will go to in order to save her husband. That kind of characterization isn't easy to portray in a novella-length story, but Ms. Monroe manages it with aplomb.
I'm a cancer survivor, so this story really hit at the heart of me, but you certainly don't need to have gone through something like that to understand a deep love. Ms. Monroe's vampire is multi-dimensional and actually shows vulnerability, which is refreshing to see too.
Overall, I'd recommend this novella to anyone who's looking for "not another vampire story".
