Overview

Following a short description of yoga's origins, the author instructs on poses, or asanas, and shows how each pose imitates nature. She then instructs on using each asana as a way of relaxation and a posture for meditation. Illustrations show how to achieve each asana, what not to do, and how to know the asana is being performed correctly. Ener-Chi Books, written especially for teens, present ideas and exercises that both energize a girl's body and soothe her spirit. The books take inspiration from a variety of Asian practices and exercises—thus, the suffix chi, a Chinese term that denotes internal physical and spiritual bodily energy. Ener-Chi Books feature clear, easy-to-follow directions and illustrations that are both clever and instructive, all presented in full color.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA
Chi is the Chinese term for internal energy, and the fabulous Ener-Chi books for teen girls offer exercises to strengthen the body and mind. A Girl's Guide to Yoga begins with an explanation of the different styles of yoga. It defines basic terms and describes the postures clearly, breaking them down into easy-to-master steps. Each pose has a "tip from the yogis" to further enhance it and explain its benefits. Although hands-on attention in a yoga class can be beneficial, a teacher is not necessary. The well-illustrated instructions in this book are clear and easy to follow. If a girl sticks to the exercises in this book, she will not hurt herself. The Ener-Chi books are outstanding. They present their information in clear, concise terms and use fun yet easy-to-understand graphics. The authors have good credentials. Both follow their respective disciplines and got help from experts in their fields. These brilliant overviews would encourage even couch potatoes to get up and try some exercises. (Ener-Chi Books).
