A Glorious Lethal Euphoria

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Steven McDonald
This keeps getting lost in the shuffle, which is a real shame. The Mermen are worshippers at the feet of the mighty Dick Dale, surf-guitar god, and they aren't afraid to demonstrate that with all the passion at their command. This means 74 minutes of big guitars, big bass, really big drums, all played at speeds that remind you of a slant-six going downhill on Laurel Canyon with gas pedal pressed flat to the floorboard. They have laidback, floaty moments as well, along the way, but this album is overall about adrenaline, killer waves and living on the edge of the abyss.

    Re-writing Surf Music

There are few artists who have had the skill, ability and talent to change the direction of a given genre. The Mermen are one of those acts who took a staid genre (surf music) and threw out the rule book, creating and crafting immensely powerful music that is also a satisfying listen. And it all coalesced on this album, every influence and inspiration, from surf to classical, rock to jazz. A highly underrated masterpiece.
