Overview

Zack wants to go back to Earth for a white Christmas—but it turns out a green Christmas is just as cool!

Christmas is just a few days away and Zack Nelson can’t wait to get back to Earth and spend it with his relatives in Vermont. He’s looking forward to sledding and having a white Christmas! But when a cosmic storm hits Nebulon, the Nelsons have to cancel their travel plans and spend Christmas on their new home planet. Zack is distraught....until the storm hits.

What are those green flakes falling from the sky? Could they be...snow? A white Christmas would have been nice, but maybe a green one is even better!

With easy-to-read language and illustrations on almost every page, the Galaxy Zack chapter books are perfect for beginning readers.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Zack lives with his parents and twin sisters, Charlotte and Cathy, on the planet Nebulon, but after living on the planet for a few months, he is looking forward to visiting Earth for Christmas. Before they leave, they go on a shopping trip to a mall on another planet. When they get back to their planet, they watch a sonic cell monitor that shows that a storm is coming. They decorate for Christmas as they wait to see if the storm will prevent them from visiting Earth. When they find out that they are not able to go, Zack’s dad finds some decorations that are traditional on their planet Nebulon. They make a tree of glowing neon tubes, metal ornaments, and a round ornament with a tiny video screen on it. The family looks at ornaments that they made when they lived on Earth as Zack tells his friend, Drake how they used to spend Christmas. When the storm comes, they are all amazed as they see green flakes falling from the sky. They go outside and play in the green snow, taking turns on their sleds, throwing snowballs, and making angels in the snow. Children will enjoy reading about the big differences between living on Earth and Nebulon. The cartoon illustrations in black-and-white are interesting and entertaining. This book in the “Galaxy Zack” series could be read by children who are beginning to read chapter books, or could be read aloud to younger children. Reviewer: Vicki Foote AGERANGE: Ages 5 to 7.

Meet the Author

Ray O’Ryan is the author of the Galaxy Zack series and has loved space stories ever since he watched the very first episode of Star Trek. He loves to imagine what traveling across the galaxy might be like and is a bit jealous of Galaxy Zack in this regard. Ray lives in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of upstate New York with his wife and two lovable, zany cats named Stitch and The Way.

Colin Jack is originally from Vancouver, Canada, and has illustrated several children’s books. He currently works at DreamWorks Animation as a story artist and character designer and lives in the Bay Area with his wife and two sons.
